Former Yakuza Creators Can’t Let Dragons go in Aptly Named, Gang of Dragon

Yakuza Likes A Dragon

Yakuza is not Like A Dragon this time as the creator of the famous game series has been working on a fresh, but very similar-looking title from an all-new studio called the Nagoshi Studio. The latest craft of Toshihiro Nagoshi is Gang of Dragon, featuring a face that fans of cinema and the trains that leave Busan know very well, Ma Dong-seok.

Revealed at The Game Awards 2025, Gang of Dragon is a brand new action-adventure game that’s deep in development by Nagoshi Studio with an unknown release date. The game heavily resembles Yakuza Like A Dragon with its action, while keeping it a bit more grounded in its theme.

The trailer doesn’t give any story clues whatsoever, but we can assume that Train To Busan‘s star fits well among the Yakuza clan. The man fearlessly holds a blade, grabs a gun that’s pointed at his head, and throws a guy with a punch as if Bruce Lee himself had handed the lessons. But is he good with guns, though? Sure, he is.

Bar fight, check. Jumping with a car over obstacles, check. Punching anyone who speaks against the protagonist and a freefire gunshot sequence, double check. And last but not least, sword fight, super check. This is a Yakuza game in a different tone.

Since Gang of Dragon is still an in-development project, all the footage in the TGA trailer is in-engine, meaning that none of it is actual gameplay. The possible dark tone of the story and a bit more grounded fights are the two things that can really distinguish this title from the Yakuza series. But even if it is another Yakuza game developed by another Studio, it should be welcomed by the fans, as what we see in the trailer is almost exactly what we were looking for.
