In a recent statement, President Trump questioned America’s allies, and many are defending their loyalty to the U.S. As the statement circulated, Prince Harry and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer were among the first to comment on its inaccuracy.

Prince Harry claps back at Trump's comments about Nato's contributions in Afghanistan – sacrifices by Nato troops in Afghanistan deserve 'respect'

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “I’ve always said, “Will they be there, if we ever needed them? And that’s really the ultimate test. And I’m not sure of that. I know that we would have been there, or we would be there, but will they be there?” Adding, “We’ve never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them. You know, they’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan, or this or that. And they did – they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.”

Prince Harry, who served in Afghanistan in 2008, addressed the question. “I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there. The United Kingdom alone had 457 service personnel killed,” he said. “Thousands of lives were changed forever. Mothers and fathers buried sons and daughters. Children were left without a parent. Families are left carrying the cost. Those sacrifices deserve to be spoken about truthfully and with respect, as they remain united and loyal to the defence of diplomacy and peace.”

The World is Unimpressed

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the president’s comments “insulting and frankly, appalling.” They are not the first political leaders to defend their country against Trump. As the U.S. president seeks advancement in other countries, many are speaking out against his bold, often bizarre statements.

Social media is also responding to the president’s comments questioning NATO’s allegiance to the U.S. “They all better clap back. Not just Harry,” one Redditor says. “Normally not a fan of his, but now maybe I am. Will Trump send ICE to Prince Harry’s house?” Another replies. Some users also comment on the target Prince Harry may have put on his back by issuing the response. “I agree with Harry. But Trump has the emotional maturity of a toddler, so expect him to go after Harry.”
