In the U.S., tipping is considered standard in restaurants and for delivery, yet some customers still choose not to leave a tip, which is entirely their choice but can significantly impact workers’ earnings. Following a recent snowstorm in Maryland, a Domino’s delivery driver was on a pizza delivery to a local residence, but when the customer refused to tip, the driver walked back to his car with the pizza and told the patron, “You can come get it.” The clip is currently circulating online.
The video, captured by the Maryland resident’s Ring camera, shows the Domino’s delivery driver wearing a black hoodie and carrying a pizza as he makes his way up the snowy pathway. After knocking on the customer’s door and waiting for a few moments, the person who ordered the pizza opens the door, and says, “Come in.” though the worker stays outside.
Once the customer hands over what appears to be a receipt — sans a tip — the worker turns heel and heads back to his car, with the pizza in hand. “You can come get it. We’re not delivering for no tips today.” he says under his breath as he heads back to his vehicle. Confused, the customer can be heard asking, “Come get it from your car?” However, the delivery driver then retorts, “What? No. You’re gonna have to come to the store to pick it up.”
Reportedly, the Domino’s worker involved in the incident has since been fired for his unprofessional behavior.
As the video continues to make the rounds online, social media users chimed in with their thoughts on the awkward interaction. Over on Reddit, one person found the footage hilarious, writing, ““Come get it from your car?” 🤣” while another chipped in with, “Honestly, valid question lollll”. Others, meanwhile, noticed that the snowy path had not been shovelled, and one commenter penned, “I would never order pizza without shoveling my driveway and steps.” Elsewhere, on Instagram, one netizen remarked, “Fancy ordering and not tipping in that weather, shameful of the people who ordered food.” while another added, “LMAO clean the snow off that driveway and learn to tip or not order“.
Ultimately, this incident highlights the importance of tipping delivery workers, especially during harsh weather conditions, as their safety and hard work deserve recognition and fair compensation.
