ICE’s deportations affect everyone including animals. Dozens of animals have been left behind with no one to care for them because their family was no longer there. One example is that of an Arizona dog that was seen by a woman while it was wandering the desert on its own. The woman, named Jamie, thought that maybe the dog belonged to someone at first. When she realized that no one was around, she asked the neighbors if they knew where the family was. That was when she was informed that ICE deported the dog’s owners. It’s not like the neighbors didn’t want to leave the dog on its own, but they didn’t know what to do. According to them, “he was so attached to his family.” Because of ICE that dog had no one left.
Jamie tried to help the Arizona dog but through the right way. That was why she took it to the animal shelter. When she went to see the dog there, she described how it looked so heartbroken. “His family wasn’t coming back and he didn’t know that,” she said. No one should go through this, whether they are a human or an animal. Jamie ended up taking the dog to her home, but it wasn’t the same for it. The dog always wanted to be alone. Even when her other dogs were playing together, the dog would hide. Then the new family found out how to start fixing things. Apparently, the dog only understood Spanish. It was only when they started speaking Spanish to him that the dog started interacting and came out of its shell.
The Arizona dog is better now, but that doesn’t erase what it went through or what happened to its original family. Even Jamie said that she feels “disturbed” whenever she thinks about what happened to the family. “It’s a reality that our own family could face,” she said. Jamie hopes that if the dog’s original family ever watches this video, they will know how well-loved it is. She is even ready to give the dog back if the family can take it. The dog might have found a new home, but there is a family out there who lost a family member because they were deported.
People Reacting to the Arizona Dog Losing Its Family
While people were happy that the Arizona dog found a new family, they were upset that it lost its original owners. “ABOLISH ICE. This is horrible,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Lots of animals have died due to ice.” Someone else commented about everything going wrong in America. “Thank you so much for taking him in. This is so heartbreaking. Never thought about the pets left behind when their families are deported. God help their families. Protect them from the inhumane and autrocities they are enduring under our current government in a country never known for such cruelty but the defender of victims from the mistreatment in their country,” they wrote.
Unfortunately, some people had no problem blaming the Arizona dog’s first family. “I know it’s disgusting, sad these families knowingly put animals and children in these situations,” one person said. So they would like it if the dog were left in a shelter for years just because they don’t like immigrants? There were also good people who hoped that the family would learn that their dog is okay. “They are probably so worried about him and cry just thinking of where he could be and hoping he’s ok. I hope they see this, whoever they are, so, they can see their FurBaby again and know he’s safe,” someone said. Hopefully, no more animals will have to go through this. They might not always find a family that knows how to speak Spanish like their old family.
