Many Trump supporters do not have positive views of anti-ICE protesters, believing the cause itself is wrong. While expressing disagreement is protected by freedom of speech, some people choose more extreme ways to make their opinions known. A recent example of this occurred at an anti-ICE rally in Nebraska, where a large group of students gathered outside Fremont High School to protest ICE. This demonstration was one of many student-organized protests taking place across the country. As the students stood along the road holding their signs, a young man could be seen getting into his car nearby. It was clear he supported Trump, as his vehicle prominently displayed a Trump flag. According to reports, he had exchanged words with the student protesters before the video began.
What happened next left viewers stunned. The video shows the Nebraska Trump supporter driving straight toward a student participating in the anti-ICE protest. At the moment of impact, the student was facing the car and holding her sign. As the car struck her, one person can be heard exclaiming, “Oh my God.” The girl fell into the road, and instead of stopping to check on her, the driver sped away down the street. Had it been an accident, many believe he would have stopped to make sure she was okay. The short clip then ends with several students rushing to surround the girl and check on her condition.
According to the Nebraska Examiner, Fremont Police said in a statement that they have identified the driver and confirmed he is a juvenile. The statement noted, “A thorough investigation of all aspects of this incident is being completed, and appropriate charges will be determined at the completion of the investigation.” Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen also addressed the incident, saying, “Here’s a fundamental truth we should all agree upon: Political violence — no matter what — is never okay.” Additionally, NowThis Impact reported that the student was hospitalized, with some saying she was alert during transfer for medical care. Regardless of circumstances or political differences, she should never have been hit.
People Reacting to What the Deranged Nebraska Trump Supporter Did
While many would expect widespread outrage over an act of political violence, a surprising number of people instead defended the Nebraska Trump supporter and placed the blame on the student. Still, others strongly condemned what happened. One person wrote, “THIS IS NOT OK,” while another pointed out, “Hit & run is a felony charge.” Some commenters referenced the death of Renee Good, noting how Trump supporters had previously claimed she used her vehicle as a weapon, prompting one person to ask, “I’m confused. Does maga approve of using a vehicle as a weapon or not?” Another commenter went even further, writing, “I would call that boy a domestic terrorist… using violence to further his own political ideology.”
One person who defended the Nebraska Trump supporter commented, “Shouldn’t have been standing in the road idk,” which led others to call out the hypocrisy in that statement. Another person responded, “Wasn’t that the same for the ice agent who shot and killed Renee Nicole?” Someone else added, “According to Republicans you’re also not allowed to carry around a firearm like Alex Pretti did… Kyle Rittenhouse, and illegally obtain a firearm and illegally drive overstate lines with the intent to harm others. That’s OK to them.” Some especially disturbing comments also surfaced, including one that asked, “Is the car ok?” On the other hand, there were people who clearly condemned what happened, such as one woman who wrote, “Well, fleeing the scene just upped those charges. They will have to wait until this administration is out to get justice sadly.”
