We all knew that Pearl Abyss would be launching a couple of showcases ahead of the release of Crimson Desert, and the most recent one to give us some sweet crumbs about this open-world adventure focuses on combat and weapons. While many of us already saw the destructive power behind our protagonist and other playable characters, we now have even more details showcasing more wrestling-like moves, and even some interesting fighting mechanics that involve Kliff’s mounts.

Crimson Desert Embraces Freedom With Its Combat and Weapon Choices

In the second #CrimsonDesert Features Overview, learn what it means to fight like a Greymane. From weapons to chaining skills, we look at how combat works in Crimson Desert.

In case you missed it, Crimson Desert just had its second Features Overview, with still one more coming later, but this one focuses more on the combat and weapon choices we’ll be able to experience in the game.

The developers mention how Crimson Desert has many possibilities in terms of how to approach combat, and we can see it right off the bat in the first clips with Kliff fighting foes with a pitchfork or blasting them with a mech.

However, we also got a glimpse at some of the armaments we’ll be wielding, including sword and shield, greatswords, dual-wield blades, axes, and spears. On top of that, we got to see Kliff chaining weapon skills with those sweet bare-handed moves. There’s even a moment when we see one of the other playable characters doing an Izuna Drop-like move, which looks superb.

Yet, it seems these moves offer even more options, such as elemental enhancements. You can see Kliff calling down thunder after a hit, and even setting foes on fire after executing one move. On top of that, Crimson Desert is also encouraging players to use their traversal skills to perform different attacks, such as that cannonball move we saw in the trailer.

Still, the biggest piece of news here pertains to progression. It seems that instead of just dumping points into a skill tree, most abilities will be locked behind activities in the open world, such as the Abyss Artifacts and some other trials involving powerful enemies. This is an excellent approach to progression and will encourage players to leave no stone unturned.

Of course, Kliff isn’t the only one with progress in the game. Your equipment will play a pivotal role, allowing you to upgrade your weapons by finding materials in the open or defeating powerful enemies. However, there’s also some boss equipment that, when obtained, will let you use boss-specific moves.

Overall, combat and weapons in Crimson Desert seem much more elaborate than we initially thought, and the fact that everything is tied to exploring this massive world is pretty exciting. Now, we only need to wait for the final showcase and continue counting the days for this game’s imminent release.
