Amid a wave of anti-ICE protests at schools nationwide, some parents have moved to actively prevent their children from participating. A Florida father recently took matters into his own hands after learning that his son’s school had planned an anti-ICE walkout. Furious at the news, he left work mid-shift to confront the school directly. Accompanied by another individual who recorded the encounter, the father demanded to check his son out of school, citing the planned protest as his reason.
After making his request, the father told the employee that students were outside protesting and claimed that one of them had been hit by a car. The employee responded that deputies were already handling the situation and that the on-campus protest was peaceful. He bristled at her explanation, insisting that students should be learning, not protesting. “I have to leave work cause while I work, I have to worry about you manipulating my kids! It’s [expletive],” he said.
He didn’t wait for a response, pressing the employee to retrieve his son and moving quickly through the procedures to check him out of school. The confrontation drew praise from some, particularly ICE supporters. The person who posted the video added, “Florida dad just became a NATIONAL HERO!” Observers noted that, despite his anger, the father managed to handle the situation without escalating it further.
People Reacting to the Florida Father Confronting His Son’s School
A lot of people agreed with what the father did in Florida and saw that it was the right thing. Some even believed that he should sue the school for letting his son go out on a protest. “Schools cannot remove a student from the school system or take them off campus without parental consent, as parents hold legal rights regarding their child’s education. Time for parents to sue school administrators, teachers and staff,” one person wrote. Another person said, “I’d do the exact same thing. My child is there to learn, not do a protest.” Someone else believed that parents should start homeschooling their kids as they wrote, “HOMESCHOOL!! Forced into classrooms for 8 hours from age 5, made to sit still under fluorescent lights, disciplined by outdated methods— Our children deserve better. If parents embraced homeschooling over institutional conformity, we’d see a bolder, freer society.”
Not everyone agreed with what the father did as some people believed that he should have allowed his son to protest. “He isnt a national hero hes a bigoted father. Actually Im a vet. Im telling you as a veteran that guy isnt a hero for going there and preventing his kid from exercising his rights,” one person wrote. Another person said, “None of the schools are promoting the protests, it’s the students exercising their first amendment rights. No manipulation happening.” Of course, many disagreed with this as someone else replied, “They are being manipulated because they are protesting ICE when they should be in school. Obviously they are getting that info from somewhere and it’s creating protests. Normal teenage behavior isn’t protesting in the streets like that.” It would be hard for everyone to agree on this matter.
