We already live in an era that makes the thoughts of having to go outside and do mundane tasks and chores absolutely haunting. Unfortunately, atrocities are happening every day, all over the country, and one California woman experienced this firsthand while trying to pump gas.
A carjacker had allegedly approached the mother’s car with some kind of pipe weapon and tried to take the vehicle from her while it was still connected to the pump. What’s worse is that the woman’s child was still inside the car. It’s a terrifying situation I would never wish upon anyone, but according to the comments, people felt there was more the mother could do.
The video in question was posted to the TikTok account @joeell_a, whose name on the bio provided is Joel. According to the text on the video, the events happened to Joel’s cousin while she was pumping gas in Long Beach, California. More specifically, the text reads, “Help me find this man he assaulted my cousin with a pope in the middle of the day and tried to car jack her with her baby in the car at the chevron in the Long Beach towne center!!!“
You can quite literally see the shirtless assailant holding up some sort of pipe as he stares at the camera and removes the gas pump from the car. He then gets inside the car using the open driver’s side door and closes it behind him. The person recording, who is likely the owner of the car, suddenly starts banging on the car doors and windows to try and get the man out.
Unfortunately, this is where the video ends, but, according to some commenters, the man wasn’t able to get away because the keys to the car weren’t in the ignition. The comment reads, “THE KEYS WERE NOT IN THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!AND DO YOU HOLD YOUR BABY WHILE PUMPING GAS? SHE WAS ATTACKED [redacted]!!!“

The comments were immediately divided into those who were worried about the family’s safety and those who thought that the mother should have also taken the baby out of the car when she went to pump gas. One commenter even says, “They blame everyone but a man.”
There aren’t any updated videos about the situation, though I can only hope that the man is found soon to avoid this situation happening to another family in the future. It’s a good thing this video shows his face pretty clearly.
