‘Terrible Use of Taxpayer Money’: Texas Graduate Goes Viral for Waving Palestinian Flag During Ceremony, Gets Kicked Out

Was that illegal?

Graduation ceremonies are usually memorable as they are, but one woman from Texas made sure that everyone on the internet would see what she advocates for. On her graduation day at Allen High School, the senior proudly waved a Palestinian flag on stage when it was her turn to get the diploma, to show support for Gaza and Palestine, of course. However, it appears the school administration didn’t like what she did, and her stunt resulted in police intervention.

The incident occurred on May 22 at Eagle Stadium in Allen, Texas, where 1,722 seniors graduated. One of them, identified as Instagram user kenza or kenzataffal, walked on stage while waving the Palestinian flag. While she successfully carried off her flag-waving and was even able to walk off stage with her diploma and the flag, school administration members and even a police officer were apparently waiting to escort her out as soon as she got back to her seat.

Kenza also shared the video with the caption, “watch me get kicked from my own graduation.” In the footage, Kenza could also be seen arguing with the police officer momentarily, before conceding and getting kicked out of the premises. At the end, the high school graduate still managed to get her diploma and retained the Palestinian flag while walking outside. For the record, Kenza isn’t the only graduate to perform this stunt in support of Gaza and Palestine and as a condemnation of Israel’s actions.

Numerous other students also waved the Palestinian flag at their respective graduation ceremonies both this year and in 2025. Getting kicked out for waving the flag, however, was not that common; other Palestinian flag-waving incidents even ended in a marriage proposal, though, to be fair, that happened in the state of California, not Texas.

The graduate’s gesture has sparked a debate

For many, waving flags in a graduation ceremony is still a divisive topic. On one hand, people online supported the graduate’s right to protest, with comments like “Last time I checked it’s still legal to protest in the US of A,” and a similar sentiment like “To escort her out via police is a terrible use of taxpayer money. She’s at a graduation, the admin needs better decorum.”

On the other hand, others were criticizing the graduate for her supposedly ironic reaction as they assumed she preferred Palestine over the USA when she waved the former’s flag. “Instead of studying and graduation in Palestine, she chose education and good life in the USA but when done she appreciates Palestine,” claims a Facebook user.

So far, Allen High School hasn’t stated the matter yet, though it appears the graduate in the video above didn’t receive disciplinary action, contrary to what certain online users were suggesting. Some commenters even wanted the graduate to pursue legal action against the school since, allegedly, “They violated the first amendment. It’s time to start suing.”
