A 12-year-old girl from Douglas County, Georgia, has died days after a fight with schoolmates left her critically injured. The girl, identified by family members as Jada West, was rushed to the hospital after the altercation on Thursday and had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. According to relatives, she passed away on Sunday.
The details of what happened were shared by a family member through a lengthy statement on TikTok, which also featured a short clip of Jada lying on a hospital bed. According to the post, another girl who Jada did not know had allegedly been having issues with her since the family moved into the neighborhood. The two reportedly got into a confrontation at Mason Creek Middle School in Douglas County before continuing during the school bus ride home.
In the short clip that was shared, Jada can be seen, after being dropped off, yelling, “I don’t know why y’all getting off the bus,” and then promising to go toe to toe with anyone who tried to get physical with her. The video does not show what happened next, but the family alleges that a fight broke out afterwards.
Relatives also alleged that an adult present during the incident did not intervene to stop the fight before it escalated. They claim that after Jada managed to break free from the altercation, she collapsed before she could even make it home.
She Was Possibly Brain Dead
The girl was rushed to a children’s hospital in Atlanta, where doctors reportedly told the family she was possibly brain dead and might not survive. After days in the hospital, the family confirmed that Jada has passed away, leaving loved ones devastated and searching for answers. In their statement, they said the incident should never have been allowed to escalate the way it did and questioned why the fight was not stopped earlier by adults who were present.
The family is now calling for an investigation and say legal action may be pursued against multiple parties, including the school system, the city, and others involved. “We want justice, we want exposure, we want resolution, and we want change,” they wrote.
