Competition among major fast-food chains has intensified recently, with several brands trading public jabs as part of the ongoing “burger wars.” Now, the CEO of McDonald’s, based in Ohio, is facing renewed backlash after an older video resurfaced online.
The clip, which has recently gone viral, led some viewers to claim it shows the McDonald’s CEO appearing unimpressed with the company’s own burgers. As the video spread across social media, many people began criticizing the executive and questioning what the moment suggested about the brand’s confidence in its own products.
The controversy began after McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski posted a video of himself trying the company’s Big Arch burger. Some viewers quickly pointed out that he only took a very small bite and referred to the burger as a “product,” which many felt sounded less enthusiastic than expected from the company’s top executive.
The moment drew reactions from rival burger chains, several of which responded online by showcasing their own burgers while appearing much more excited about them.
Soon after, an older video of Kempczinski began circulating again on social media. In the clip, he takes a bite of one of McDonald’s chicken sandwiches and then immediately reaches for a napkin to wipe his mouth. The short clip led some viewers to speculate that he may have spat the bite out rather than swallowed it. A slowed-down version of the footage has also circulated online, with some claiming it appears to support that interpretation, though it is not confirmed.
People Reacting to the Ohio McDonald’s CEO Allegedly Spitting Out Their Burger
The viral clip quickly sparked criticism online, with many viewers convinced the CEO had spit out the sandwich because they believed it tasted bad. “That food is garbage but if you offered me a $20m compensation package annually and use of a company jet I’d [expletive] wolf that trash down and love every second of it,” one person wrote.
Another commenter replied with a similar sentiment: “For $20m my acting sure would be better than this man. I’d be snorting that Mac sauce to prove a point.”
Some users compared the moment to everyday experiences. “Me pretending to eat my dinner as a child,” one person joked.
Another Reddit user referenced the company’s famous slogan, writing, “I’m not lovin’ it.”
The comments highlighted how quickly the clip turned into a viral talking point, with many people using humor to react to the moment.
Some commenters also said they were entertained by the drama surrounding the viral clip and the reactions it sparked online. “Yes! I love a good big corporation CEO scandal. Overpaid soulless monsters,” one person wrote.
Another commenter argued that if the CEO truly disliked the food, he should focus on improving it. “Listen, McDonald’s isn’t great. But even I can manage taking and swallowing a bite with reasonable gusto if I needed to (for an ad or something). I’m just mind blown that he detests it so much he has to spit it out. For [expletive] sake, dude, you’re the CEO. If it’s that nasty, fix it. But quit trying to gaslight us into thinking you eat with the poors. We see you,” they wrote.
Not everyone agreed with the criticism, however. One person suggested the video might be misinterpreted, saying, “….. maybe I’m crazy but I don’t think it looks like he spit it out, it just looks like he wiped his mouth.”
The mixed reactions highlighted how differently people interpreted the short clip as it spread across social media.
