There are many troubling stories emerging from ICE detention camps, and a new one has recently been shared. It was revealed that guards at Camp East Montana in Texas, which is the largest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility, are allegedly placing bets on which detainee would take their own life next.
The terrifying story was shared by The Associated Press, which spoke with a former detainee named Owen Ramsingh. According to him, “Camp East Montana was 1,000% worse than a prison.” The conditions at the camp were described as extremely harsh, and Ramsingh claimed detainees felt their lives were not valued by the guards. He said that at one point he overheard a security guard talking about bets being made among staff about which detainee would take their own life next. “The guard said he had paid $500 into a pool, with the total pot riding on the outcome,” the publication reported. Ramsingh said the situation was especially disturbing because he heard the conversation while he himself was struggling with thoughts of taking his own life.
According to the publication, a DHS spokesperson denied Ramsingh’s claims. The Associated Press noted that the spokesperson did not provide any “indication of how the agency had sought to verify that.” The report also mentioned that there have been several incidents where detainees attempted to take their own lives. Ramsingh alleged that instead of responding with concern, some guards were making bets related to those incidents. This situation has raised serious concerns.
People Reacting to the Disgusting ICE Guards Betting on Detainees’ Lives
People expressed outrage after hearing the allegations about the guards at the Texas ICE detention facility. “America is a disgrace. How in Gods name are we in this mess. One man is destroying us all,” one person wrote. Another commenter argued that the situation goes beyond a single person. “It’s not just one man though. He just emboldened them to show how ugly and evil they truly are,” they said. Others questioned supporters of strict immigration enforcement. “where are the ‘I voted for this‼’ people????” one person asked. That prompted responses from others who claimed that some ICE supporters approve of harsh treatment of immigrants. “Trust me, they are loving this, just won’t admit it‼” one person wrote. Another replied, “they admit this [expletive]. They are suffering and want to see people suffering. What a bunch of losers.”
More people expressed their outrage over the situation, as one person wrote, “Our prison system has always been horrible. This is nothing new. Guards are not good people. Conditions are horrible unless it’s a ‘country club’ federal prison.” Another person asked, “WHY IS NO ONE DOING ANYTHING?” This made a person from Germany reply and say, “You, the people, gotta do something. I’m German, I learned about how to stop this from happening again my whole life. I never thought I’d have to sit by and watch another country repeat my ancestors mistakes.” Someone else wrote, “Someday everyone will say they were against this and pretend that they weren’t cheering this on.” Everyone should be furious.
