When people hear about the Jeffrey Epstein files, most assume the topic will be treated with seriousness. However, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is facing criticism online after launching merchandise featuring a phrase she once said during a deposition related to the Epstein case.
The controversy began after Clinton shared images of the new merchandise on her official Instagram Stories. The items were linked through her organization, Onward Together, which promotes progressive political causes.
According to the posts, the merchandise features a phrase Clinton said during a deposition connected to the Epstein investigation. During the deposition, after learning that a photograph of her had been leaked, Clinton reportedly responded with the line:
“Hold me in contempt from now until the cows come home.”
The phrase now appears printed across several items being sold through the organization’s online store.
The merchandise collection includes a hat priced at $35, a crewneck sweatshirt listed for $55, and a t-shirt selling for $32. In her Instagram story promoting the items, Clinton suggested the products were created after supporters requested them.
“You asked. We listened,” she wrote.
She also added that the proceeds from the merchandise would go toward political causes supported by her organization.
“Your purchase supports progressive groups and leaders fighting for our democracy… until the cows come home,” the post said.
While the merchandise may have been intended as a fundraising effort, it quickly sparked backlash online from critics who felt the connection to the Epstein case made the products inappropriate.
People Reacting to Hillary Clinton’s Merchandise
After the promotion began circulating online, many internet users criticized the idea of turning a phrase connected to the Epstein deposition into merchandise.
“No, please don’t monetize this tragedy,” one commenter wrote. “Selling merch inspired by a sex trafficking deposition is a big no-no for me.”
Another person argued that if the merchandise was going to exist, the profits should go toward those affected by the case.
“If anything, she should be donating proceeds to the survivors,” the commenter said.
Others accused the promotion of being tone-deaf, given the serious nature of the Epstein investigation.
“This is so tone deaf,” another user wrote. “Capitalizing on Epstein victims is the lowest of the low.”
Some critics also suggested the controversy could lead to Clinton addressing the backlash publicly.
“You gotta give it to her, she’s great at making both sides of the aisle hate her,” one Reddit user wrote. “I give it a day before she issues an apology.”
For some observers, the merchandise promotion also revived long-standing political criticism directed toward the Clinton family.
“I really wish the Clintons would just go away and stop attaching themselves to everything,” one commenter wrote.
Despite the backlash, Clinton has not publicly responded to the criticism surrounding the merchandise promotion.
