Let’s go old school

A Maryland influencer is going viral after responding to a sexist comment suggesting that whoever pays the most household bills should automatically control the property.

The creator, who runs the popular social media channel Fashionably Divorced, addressed the comment directly in a video that has begun circulating widely online. In the clip, she reads a message from a commenter who claimed that the person paying most of the bills “owns the property.”

Since men, especially Gen Z, expects women to obey men like they used to, those men can also expect women to observe these traditional practices, too. #traditionalmarriage #traditionalwife #tradwife #husbandandwife #wife

The commenter went further, arguing that “a maid cannot throw the owner out.” The influencer quickly clarified who the commenter was referring to.

“FYI, the maid that he is referring to is his wife,” she told viewers.

The comment continued with a more aggressive tone, claiming that men should “go old school and put these women in their place or toss them out.”

The Maryland influencer responded with a mix of sarcasm and historical references.

“I know you think you’re the smartest that ever smartest, the bestest man that ever manned,” she said while addressing the commenter.

She then proposed what she called an “old timey game,” referencing the commenter’s idea of returning to more traditional roles.

“You know, for [expletive] and giggles, let’s play the old timey game,” she said.

To make her point, she posed a historical question about marriages from earlier eras.

“Before women could get divorced, what were they doing with their husbands that they couldn’t throw out?”

She continued by joking about some of the skills women were known for historically.

“[Women] were excellent gardeners,” she said. “They were very proficient cooks and very knowledgeable in interesting recipes.”

According to the influencer, many of those recipes included “a lot of herbal remedies.”

She also referenced the popularity of cast-iron cookware in earlier households.

“They had a large collection of cast iron skillets,” she joked, adding that it was “healthier to cook in cast iron.”

She concluded the video with a pointed remark directed back at the commenter.

“You know, sir, I actually agree with you,” she said. “I think we should go back to the old school version of marriage and even divorce.”

Women Applaud Maryland Influencer

The video quickly sparked reactions across social media, with many viewers, particularly women, praising the influencer’s response.

Some commenters joked about the historical references she made in the video.

“Women really need to get back to herbal remedies and gardening,” one person wrote.

Another commenter referenced stories they had heard from older generations.

“Ask any nurse, lots of old ladies in hospice casually confess to offing their husbands,” the user claimed.

Others leaned into the influencer’s mention of old-fashioned tools and household items.

“We’re bringing back hat pins and hair sticks extra sharp of course,” one commenter joked.

Some responses focused more directly on the property argument raised in the original comment.

“No, actually, whoever’s name is on the house is who owns it,” one person wrote.

Several commenters also pointed out what they saw as contradictions in the commenter’s views about traditional relationships.

“They want an old-fashioned wife but also want everything split 50/50,” another person wrote.

Others pointed to statistics about home ownership.

“Women own 2.71 million more homes than men… so who is throwing who out?” one commenter asked.

Some responses simply dismissed the original statement entirely.

“These men are not living in reality,” one user wrote.

Another added a personal example, saying, “Joke’s on him… my house is in MY name alone.”

Despite the debate in the comment section, the Maryland influencer’s response continues to circulate widely online as viewers share the clip and discuss the broader conversation around relationships, finances, and property ownership.
