Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 Finally Getting That Elusive DLC Expansion? Fans Found Hidden Clues in Anniversary Art

All roads lead to DLC

Expectations were low when Capcom dropped a post to celebrate its massive open-world RPG’s second anniversary. Just a simple artwork without any huge news. No patch. No surprise update. But within hours, fans have discovered something rather unusual. Hidden details in the form of an unfamiliar character and a note have now sparked discussions that Capcom may be teasing the long-awaited DLC expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The biggest question is a mysterious character standing with his back turned, lit by mysterious blue lights. He is also positioned between some Vocation Maisters: Beren, Hail, and Cliodhna. That placement immediately raised eyebrows as everyone else in the image is identifiable. Some fans believe the figure could represent a brand-new unarmed Vocation Maister in the DLC.

Then there’s the letter on the table. Fans realized that the text is written in the in-game alphabet of Gransys. When translated into the standard alphabet, the letter reads, “Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern region of Organ have been confirmed.”

That line alone sparked even bigger speculation. After all, the base game does repeatedly reference a northern region that players never actually visit. But a place called Organ itself is never mentioned anywhere in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

That anticipation comes from lingering disappointment around the base game itself. Fans criticized the lack of meaningful endgame content and limited enemy variety, and they have been hoping there would be a follow-up to alleviate that issue. That makes any potential tease like this feel like a drop of water in the desert for the weary explorers of Gransys.

Launching an expansion or a revised version later down the line has long been part of Capcom’s playbook. Just look at the many iterations of Street Fighter 2, which practically became a gaming meme. However, this case is more unusual.

The original Dragon’s Dogma launched in 2012, with the massive Dark Arisen expansion arriving roughly a year later. Devil May Cry 5 also followed a similar pattern, receiving its Special Edition complete with playable Vergil, around 20 months after launch. If the anniversary artwork is really teasing an update, Dragon’s Dogma 2 would be taking even longer. By the time any expansion arrives, it will be more than two years since release.

It doesn’t help that dataminers have uncovered files labeled ‘Extra Content,’ including references to a potential boss rush mode. Other leftover data also mentioned a multiplayer-focused expansion called ‘Tower of the New Moon.’ None of it has surfaced officially, but it suggests some plans never fully materialized.

All of this lands at a particularly interesting time. Series creator Hideaki Itsuno departed Capcom for Tencent’s LightSpeed Studios in August last year, leaving the franchise’s future uncertain. If Capcom does have a DLC expansion lined up, it may represent one of the final pieces of Dragon’s Dogma 2 shaped by Itsuno’s team.
