A Florida woman who took a Lyft ride one night got into an uncomfortable situation with the driver that made her consider “jumping out” of the vehicle just to get away. According to her, the man crossed some ethical boundaries while she was in the car. “He asked me for a kiss,” she wrote in the caption of a video she shared to TikTok. “I was honestly really scared.”
The video shows the woman secretly filming from the backseat, mostly hidden in the dark except for brief flashes of light from passing streetlights. The driver, who spoke in broken English, can be heard telling her he could help fix things in her home and even suggested he could pay her rent. Although she rejected both offers, even laughing it off, which she later said she did out of fear for her safety, he still kept pushing.
He asked her personal questions, including whether she had a place to stay. When she said no, he suggested she could come live with him.
It got to a point where the woman said she could not handle the conversation any longer, so she asked him to stop the car. When he did not immediately pull over, she opened the door while the vehicle was still in motion. She claimed in the caption that she had been ready to jump out if necessary, refusing, as she put it, to “end up in somebody’s basement.”
Netizens Have Reacted With Shock to the Florida Woman’s Experience
People in her comments were mostly alarmed, especially given that she was alone in the car at night. Many wrote things like, “This is so scary omg 😭” and “This is so not right.” One person even asked, “What possess [sic] someone to do this??”
Some also urged her to take further action against the driver. “Get a lawyer. This is crazy,” one comment read, while another simply said, “Please report.”
Based on a screenshot she shared, the incident appears to be under investigation by Lyft, and her account has been placed on hold. The company also responded in the comments, writing, “We can’t imagine how you’re feeling after this ride and want to check in with you to make sure you’re ok. Someone from our safety team will follow up with you shortly to offer additional support.”
The Florida woman said she appreciated the company’s response but added that the situation has been a “major inconvenience,” as she does not possess a car and relies on the service for transportation.
