A video of a Texas rancher went viral after he found one of his favorite roosters outside drowning. He and his sister then jumped straight into action, doing everything they could to save him. It goes to show how far anybody will go for their pets, farm or not.
TikTok user Steven (TikTok/Hotmessranch) came outside one morning to see that one of his roosters was drowning after jumping into a nearby body of water. Steven calls out, “Come on, Big Red! You ain’t dead yet. Come on, buddy!” He then runs off screen, where his sister can be seen with a hair dryer plugged in. They blow the warm air on ‘Big Red’ and Steven proceeds to give the rooster CPR.
Steven obviously did his research. He tells his sister, “It says to hold him upside-down and let the water drain out.” As they’re allowing him to cough up the water, they notice that Big Red’s eyeballs shoot open. His sister proclaims in excitement, “He opened his eyes!” They continue to give the rooster CPR, noting that he’s still warm to the touch.
Eventually, Big Red takes a big breath and bites Steven’s hand. His claws start gripping Steven’s hand again. They zoom in on his face and you can see Big Red blinking again, conscious and alert once again. Big Red eventually stands on his own two feet again.
Steven admonishes him, “You cannot float like a duck. I hope we’ve learned our lesson that you’re not a duck. You’re a rooster.” Steven says that this whole ordeal was an emotional roller coaster ride. He stated in the caption of his TikTok video, “This lasted for over an hour.”
In an update video, Steven pokes fun at the situation. He records Big Red trotting around the farm and says, “You didn’t even text me this morning after we made out for an hour yesterday. No phone call. Nothing.” Steven says that a vet came and did a once over on Big Red, saying he’s fine and to keep an eye on him.
How People Online Are Reacting to Steven’s Animal Rescue
Viewers shared their excitement over Steven going above and beyond just to save his rooster. Even going as far as to wish everyone had a Steven in their life. “I need this man to hype me up every morning,” one commenter joked. Another quipped, “May this level of perseverance and care find me if I am ever in an emergency situation.”
Given how animated Steven was, one viewer suggested he try voice acting. “If you’ve ever seen Home on the Range, he sounds like the Willie Brothers,” one TikTok user wrote.
Many were in awe of Steven and his sisters’ dedication. “Love you people, don’t even know you,” a viewer wrote. “THESE are pet owners!” said another.
This video continues to gain attention for its outlandish but heartwarming display of love for animals. It shows how far someone will go for the one they love, even if it’s a pet on a farm. According to Steven, Big Red is running around like normal, clucking away and pecking at the grass.
