An Ohio woman shared a video of herself being very open about the racist remarks and attitudes her family engages in, specifically her brothers. Posted by TikTok user Angelicakenniferr (Angelica), she recounts the disturbing comments, which range from racially insensitive to outright malicious.
Angelica starts by recalling “jokes” her brothers made involving a black man and a white man. If both were “aggressive,” who would they kill first? “They didn’t say it was the white man,” Angelica says, and admonishes her brothers for not only their behavior but for also being unfunny.
According to Angelica, when she tried to speak out, they brought up crime statistics—a very common argument every racist runs to. “Let’s go to ChatGPT to clarify the statistics in America,” Angelica says, mocking her brothers. She’s clearly distraught and says being related to them is “embarrassing” after she says one of them admitted they were “proud” to be racist.
Another golden example of her brothers’ racism is apparently intentionally assigning the wrong nationality. “They call every Hispanic person, that looks even slightly Hispanic, Mexican.” In addition to calling anyone Asian “Chinese.” She also adds they aren’t too interested in actually learning what the differences are.
On the subject of ICE, Angelica shares her brother’s insistence that God would be “pro-ICE” and Jesus would be “pro-Trump.” And she says this is all in the name of religion, drawing a connection between loving God so much that it makes people from the Black community distrustful of white people.
According to Angelica, her brothers are quite open about using slurs (and use them more when it’s pointed out). When called out, they run to the defense of it being a “free country” and “freedom of speech.” In fact, her friends, who are like her, are what encourage her to stand up for others. “That used to not be me,” Angelica says, but admits it’s still frustrating when that kind of behavior is coming from family.
The Internet Reacts to Angelica’s TikTok Video
Most of the comments on Angelica’s TikTok video were in support of her speaking up, as well as sharing it on social media. “We the Black community support you, girly,” one viewer wrote, to which Angelica liked. One commenter being contrarian wrote, “I wish yall would stop saying this…”
Others were far more generous with Angelica and her story. “Girl, break the cycle. So glad you are aware of it!” said one TikTok user, while another (a white woman) said, “I’m breaking the cycle too, girl.”
Some viewers were baffled by the conversations Angelica’s brothers were having. “No because what kinda question is that!?” asked one commenter, trying to find the logic in the racist hypothetical Angerlica’s brothers posed. “Like what did we do?!” asked another, to which a TikTok user answered with: “Simply exist.”
Many viewers shared their support by making Angelica an honorary sister. “I’ve always wanted a sister,” said one TikTok user, while another told Angelica, “You get a follow sista!”
