New York Woman Threatened with Ban from Mall Over Her Service Dogs: ‘How Can They Be THAT Bored’

It appears that some laws were broken here

A New York woman had her service dog and a service dog-in-training with her when she went to a Long Island mall. While there, two security guards started a problem with her over the service dogs. In the end, they threatened her with a ban from the mall just because she had her dogs with her, which was legally permitted.

Just a small snippet of what happened yesterday We took this future service dog prospect out for a short socialization trip along with our two fully trained off leash service dogs. Note since he’s still just a young puppy he was carried for almost the entire outing, only getting down briefly in a few appropriate places. His focus and confidence were incredible and he handled everything exactly how we’d hope for at this age. Unfortunately as we were leaving, mall security stopped us bc of the fact our dogs were offleash and things escalated into an access issue. We recorded the interaction and this clip is only a small part of what happened. The full video with the entire interaction and context will be posted soon. TikToker @venturouscanines posts about her service dog, Koa, as well as other dogs she’s worked with. She recently posted about an experience that she had at a Long Island mall that left her feeling upset and alarmed. While at the mall, she and another handler brought her service dog and a service dog-in-training along. The young puppy in training is working diligently to become a certified service dog. They were just doing what they’re permitted to do.

As this TikToker and her friend were leaving the mall, mall security stopped them. They gave her a hard time about her service dog being off his leash. This is when she started recording the interaction. One of the guards is talking to somebody and asks him, “Can you get me two ban sheets?” It’s obvious that he’s looking to kick them out of the mall and make it so they can’t return. Koa’s handler asks, “Oh, so he wants to ban us from the mall because of our service dogs?”

As all this is happening, the TikToker says, “Holy [expletive]. Someone’s getting fired.” The guard ignores her statement and says, “You know the rules” and tells her she has to comply like everybody else. He then adds, “I have the right to BAN you from the mall.” The two women stand there, laughing and waiting to see what happens next. At this time, Koa’s handler has not posted anything further about what happened. It is not known if they got a resolution to the issue. But it’s very clear that she’s willing to stand up for her rights and fight for her service animals!

Commenters immediately started sharing their reactions to her video after its posting. One commenter was familiar with the area and the guards. They commented, “I work at this mall… That dude is always on a power trip. Let me know if you want me to make a complaint.” @Venturouscanines responded, “YES PLEASE!” and asked the commenter if she knows his name since he wouldn’t give it to them.

Other commenters pointed out that what the guards did was breaking the law. As one mentioned, “It’s against the law to not allow service animals.” Another added, “Isn’t this an ADA violation?” One commenter simply stated: “Congratulations on the lawsuit.” Commenters continue to share their opinions on her video and offer assistance from a legal standpoint.
