Picking up your daughter from school should be a straightforward and routine part of being a parent, but that wasn’t the case for one father in Waterbury, Connecticut. Recently, when a father attempted to pick up his daughter from school, a school principal allegedly refused to release the child, sparking a heated back-and-forth that ultimately led the father to call the police. The footage is circulating online right now.
The video opens outside a school in Connecticut, showing a female staff member wearing a pink floral dress holding onto the arm of a young toddler. The footage is recorded from the perspective of the dad who is attempting to pick up his daughter from school. As the video starts, you can hear the school principal state, “We can wait for the police.” Meanwhile, the man shares his side of the story, and describes what’s happening.
“And this lady is trying to take my daughter and she got her hand on my daughter. And she’s doing it right in front of my daughter.” says the father, who is also on the phone to the cops. You can hear the police on the phone ask, “Is this just some random lady or is this the child’s mother?” In response, the dad explains, “No, this is a lady at the school.” Attempting to clarify things further, the authorities inquire, “So the school is saying they’re not gonna release the child?”
Continuing on, the father states, “Yeah, I have my daughter outside the school and she’s on the sidewalk right now grabbing my daughter’s hand. And I told her to release my daughter and she still has my daughter’s hand and her arm.” The school principal replies politely with, “Sir, I don’t have anything.”
The awkward exchange continues as police try to determine how to proceed. “This is a principal, I guess.” states the dad to the police who are on speakerphone. After revealing her name on camera, the police ask if the school employee is inebriated, and the father responds with, “I’m not sure if they’re on anything right now.” Despite two staff members asking him to wait for police to arrive, the father appears to be in a rush and leaves with his daughter. On his way, he explains that he’ll talk to the police when they call him back, ending the footage.

The principal refused to release her because they believed it was the mother’s turn. Police were called, and I informed them I was taking my daughter and that everything was safe.

Meanwhile, over on Reddit, one netizen penned, “wtf? So all that and you just let him go?
