Virginia Biker Says Neighbor’s Dog Finally Bit Them After Months of Chasing: ‘Setting His Dog Up to Fail in a Spectacularly Bad Way’

It’s the owner that needs to be ‘trained’

A Virginia biker says months of being chased and nipped by a neighbor’s loose dog finally escalated into a bite, but what frustrated them even more was the owner’s alleged reaction. According to the Reddit post, the neighbor appeared largely unfazed after learning what had happened.

After being bitten, CD_B_ said they immediately went to the owner’s front door to report what happened. According to the post, the neighbor “seemed unfazed,” leaving the biker worried they would be bitten again the next time they rode past the property. They later contacted animal control and turned to Reddit for advice.

Despite repeatedly trying to make the dog comfortable around them, the biker questioned whether they should have reported the behavior sooner instead of hoping it would improve on its own. Based on the video, thousands of Reddit users were more than certain it was the owner at fault for the dog’s bite, not CD_B_.

“That is a dog that has never been trained properly on boundaries,” remarked a commenter. Another user pointed out that the dog is a livestock guardian breed. “There is NO reason it should be loose like that in a residential neighborhood setting; they need fencing or else EVERYTHING is their territory to guard,” they explained.

Several commenters argued the dog’s behavior reflected poor ownership rather than an inherently aggressive animal. One Redditor wrote, “This is instinct,” before adding that the owner had “set his dog up to fail in a SPECTACULARLY bad way.” Others echoed that sentiment, saying the dog would ultimately suffer because of its owner’s decisions.

As of publication, CD_B_ had not posted an update on whether animal control or police took further action. In the meantime, they said they were considering carrying pepper spray for protection if they encountered the dog again, while hoping the owner would take steps to prevent another attack.
