5 Anime You Need to Watch After Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

The journey continues

There comes a time in the life of every anime fan where we all get a hole in the shape of whatever show caused an impact on us. Recently, that hole has the shape of one of the most powerful elf magicians: Frieren. With its latest season now over, and the next one planned for the future, many might want to fill that gap with something that feels similar to this unforgettable adventure. Well, we’ve got you covered because here we have a list of five anime you should watch after finishing Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

1. Witch Hat Atelier

Let’s start with the talk of the moment, and the one that seems like the best anime to watch straight after Frieren. Witch Hat Atelier, which premiered in Spring 2026, follows the story of Coco, who, while trying to learn magic, causes a catastrophe that affects her mother and now must find a way to reverse it. While the magic part is more than obvious, the show features several heartwarming moments and gorgeous animation that is on par with what we’ve seen in Frieren.

2. Dungeon Meshi

Continuing with the fantasy genre, we have Delicious in Dungeon, or in its original title, and as many call it, Dungeon Meshi. This show is all about enjoying meals inside a dangerous dungeon while looking for the protagonist’s lost sister. What’s the gimmick then? Well, all meals are made of monster ingredients. It is a hilarious, shocking, and perfectly animated show with two cours that will fill the void Frieren left and maybe spark your appetite.

3. Violet Evergarden

This might not be in line with other fantasy shows, but if you’re looking for a heartwarming, gutpunching story that has several side characters with memorable episodes and these “mini-adventures” such as the ones Frieren and her crew have, then Violet Evergarden is a perfect choice. While it might be a bit old now (yes, time flies), Violet Evergarden is considered one of the best drama shows of the last decade, and one that is perfect to watch after finishing Frieren.

4. Secrets of the Silent Witch

Our next recommendation might seem a bit weird, especially since it has a bit more comedy than drama, but Secrets of the Silent Witch is a show that might have flown under many people’s radar. The story follows Monica, who is one of the most powerful witches in the nation, but her biggest weakness is talking to others. Things get hilarious and a bit dangerous once she gets the task of infiltrating a school to protect the prince. Besides being a beautiful anime with superb characters and an excellent plot, it also deals with topics of social anxiety that many people might relate to.

5. Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions

Before we wrap this up, we had to mention one of the big fantasy anime shows of the last decade, and that’s Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions. We know that some people might have gripes with the Isekai genre, but Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions is on a more grounded level, touching upon some deep topics, while also delivering some mind-blowing animation and unforgettable plots. And despite premiering 10 years ago, it still rivals the quality of many modern shows, all thanks to the superb work of A-1 Pictures.

In the end, there are many other fantasy shows that could also feel the Frieren-shaped void, but we definitely recommend starting with these ones. All of them have similar narratives and that adventuring feeling that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End conveyed in almost all its episodes. And the great thing about this is that almost every single one is finished, meaning you can binge-watch them all, and maybe get another hole with the shape a new show. But well, that’s the price we have to pay as anime fans.
