Every year, FFXIV fans and players eagerly await the FFXIV Fanfest tour, where the development team—and especially director Yoshi-P—announces everything coming in the next expansions. Well, the first stop on this tour is the FFXIV NA Fanfest, where they reveal the main features coming to the game. During this event, Yoshi-P announced a new collaboration for the game’s Alliance Raids in the FFXIV next expansion, Evercold, and it’s none other than with the legendary anime Evangelion, just in time to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
There have been previous collaborations in FFXIV; one, for example, was in the previous expansion, Dawntrail, which featured Final Fantasy XI. Although speaking specifically of collaborations with other anime, there was also the one with NieR: Automata, which was for the Shadowbringers expansion. On both occasions, these collaborations focused on Alliance Raids, which, unlike other raids in the game, consist of 24 players in a single battle.
Evangelion Is Coming as a Collaboration With FFXIV in Evercold
Both FFXIV and Evangelion are legendary, so this collaboration has sparked a lot of buzz. However, the person most excited about it is none other than the MMO’s director, Yoshi-P, who is a huge fan of the anime. Even so, many fans still can’t believe this amazing news.
“Yoshi-P, if the final raid doesn’t end with all the Scions gathered around us going “Congratulations!”, we will have words!“
“My Reaction was simply…wat? Like I recognized the music instantly, but this was so far off my Bingo Card it would be in some Bizzaro universe, so I didn’t believe it until the name appeared.”
“I want two things: Eva mount, Cruel Angels Thesis orch roll.”
Many are already coming up with their own theories and listing what they want to see in this epic Alliance Raid. However, we’ll have to wait a couple more months to see what this new expansion has in store, as its release is scheduled for January 2027.
Even so, there are still other FFXIV Fanfest events to come, with the Berlin event next in July, where there will be more details on new features, classes, or whatever else Yoshi-P has been preparing after finally leaving Wuk Lamat in peace on her throne. Also, remember that Patch 7.5 is coming to FFXIV on April 28, and it will serve as a prologue to Evercold.
