A driver in North Carolina is being called racist online after a photo circulated showing a controversial display on their car.
The person who took the picture said it was taken in Waynesville outside a Food Lion location. The vehicle had several stickers, including one that read “Buck Fiden,” a phrase used as a political insult directed at former President Joe Biden. The political sticker was not the main focus of the image that spread online.
The main focus of the image shared was a hitch-mounted cargo carrier attached to the vehicle. On top of the cargo basket, there was a statue of a young Black boy. The statue appeared to be displayed in a disturbing way, with a thin rope wrapped around its neck and also around its legs, giving the impression of being restrained. The image quickly drew strong reactions online due to how it was presented.
The display was widely criticized online, with many viewers interpreting the statue and its presentation as offensive and racially insensitive. The driver also had another sticker on the vehicle that read, “Believe there is good in the world,” which some online commenters pointed out as ironic given the nature of the display that had drawn attention. The image sparked broader discussion online about racism and how people perceive and respond to symbols and actions they view as harmful or offensive in public spaces.
Outrage After Image of North Carolina Driver’s Vehicle Circulates
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers expressed outrage after the image from North Carolina circulated online, with some accusing the driver of racism based on the display. “I am not a violent person whatsoever, but I feel I might lose it if I saw that. This is pure insanity,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “These are the people we have to exist with. Be the good…”
Others viewed the image in North Carolina as evidence of ongoing racism, saying it reflected broader societal issues. “Let’s all save this image for the next time someone tries to say racism doesn’t really exist or that they don’t see people being racist,” one person wrote. Another commenter expanded on that point, writing, “They’ll just move the goalposts from ‘racism doesn’t exist anymore’ to ‘ok like one single racist person doesn’t mean we have a problem with racism in this country’. Then if you give them more examples it shifts to ‘well it’s not as racist here as it is in some other countries’. It doesn’t matter what evidence you give them, because it’s not about facts or reality. It’s about their ego being wrapped up in the idea that America is the good place with the good people.”
The image left many viewers shocked, as they perceived its content as highly offensive and racist, sparking strong reactions and wider discussion online.
