Almost 300,000 Floridians have lost SNAP benefits due to cuts made by the federal government in 2026. Florida residents quickly became outraged by this data, especially considering that vulnerable populations such as seniors and veterans were the most impacted.
According to reports, U.S. President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill enacted $186 billion in cuts over 10 years, affecting SNAP benefits. More than 3 million people across the country have lost access to food stamps, making it harder for them to put food on the table as prices continue to rise.
With eligibility for the program becoming stricter, the number of people enrolled in the Sunshine State dropped from 2,849,238 in July 2025 to 2,570,518 in January 2026, representing 278,720 Floridians losing access to SNAP benefits.
Floridians Criticize Cuts of SNAP Benefits
On social media, Floridians criticized locals who voted for the Republican Party for the change. “Well, it seems like that is what most Floridians voted for. They’re pretty solidly red. I feel sorry for anyone who is not MAGA and is losing benefits,” one user said.
Someone else added: “[Expletive] the poor, veterans, disabled, and seniors – GOP. Can’t keep blaming the Dems for everything when you are in control.” Others agreed: “Last month, my wife’s uncle asked what people thought about how badly Biden had messed the economy up and why it was taking Trump so long to fix it all. This is a death cult, and they will drag this country down with them.”
Another was concerned about the long-term effects of these policy changes, saying, “These are billions of dollars removed from the working economy. Retailers and Main Street in general will feel the impact as well. People will be losing jobs, and they won’t have access to SNAP, either.”
One Floridian sarcastically summarized the situation: “Well, at least the leopards are well fed,” they said, referring to the saying that became popular in 2015: “’I never thought leopards would eat my face,’ sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party.”
It remains to be seen how these SNAP benefit cuts will affect Florida’s economy and the lives of the individuals who lost them, but the cuts are certainly controversial.
