Minnesota Republicans are sounding the alarm yet again after a Minneapolis grocery store owner was charged in an alleged $1.1 million SNAP fraud scheme, with local GOP blasting Governor Tim Walz and state Democrats over what they say has become a nonstop cycle of taxpayer abuse and constant fraud.
In a thread started on X by the Libsoftiktok and reported by Fox News, court documents accuse Abdidwahid Mohamed, the owner of Minnesota Food Grocery LLC, of allegedly using other people’s EBT cards to buy products from stores like Costco and Sam’s Club before reselling them in his own grocery store. Prosecutors say the operation brought in more than $1.14 million in SNAP payments over just a few months in 2021.
As you could imagine, Minnesota, a place that was already a hotbed in terms of ICE, fraud, and some controversial Democratic leadership, only got worse once this story broke. Local GOP went online and took out their anger on the statewide leadership.
“I feel for the poor shlubs in Minnesota making an honest dollar. They have to be kicking themselves by now.”
“That I guarantee will not find one person guilty of fraud because they are all liberal donors.”
“And again what is sad is that none of these people will ever be held accountable for their actions. Democrats are above the law”
“Deport all Somalis. Legal or illegal, don’t care. Deport ALL of them”
State Sen. Mark Koran also had choice words about the fraud.
The sheer volume of welfare programs, combined with the inability of state agencies to detect obvious fraud is alarming. Once again, it was a private retailer, not the state, that uncovered this fraud scheme, all individuals involved, including the people that sold their EBT cards to Abdi Mohamed, have to be fully prosecuted. People who come here to steal from hardworking Minnesota taxpayers deserve serious consequences.
Mohamed has been charged but has not been convicted. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison and significant fines, according to charging documents. SNAP continues to be a hot topic nationwide.
