A Missouri woman shared a recording of her sleeping toddler daughter. In the clip, the 15-month-old appears to be saying her late sister’s name twice. The sister in question was tragically killed years prior, and the man responsible is serving a decades-long sentence in prison.
Devyn Ashley, the child’s mother, shared her daughter’s baby monitor footage on TikTok. She regularly posts lifestyle and family content, but this clip in question became her biggest ever. It garnered a whopping 3.6 million views, 398,200 likes, and close to 6,000 comments.
The clip shows the Missouri woman’s 15-month-old daughter, Indie Jay, sleeping in her crib. The girl is shown laughing hysterically as she slowly wakes up and rolls. At one moment, specifically at the 50-second and 2-minute mark, Indie can be heard saying “Jayda.”
That is, according to Devyn’s caption, her 3-year-old daughter’s name. The girl “passed away” in 2017, so the mother found the clip extremely moving, fully believing both sisters were talking to each other.
“She has the best guardian angel,” Devyn wrote in the clip’s description.
Jayda’s Tragic Death
Tragically, Jayda’s passing is a very dark episode in Devyn’s life.
Back on November 17, 2017, as reported by The Joplin Globe, emergency responders were dispatched to a Carl Junction residence in Missouri. Three-year-old Jayda Kyle had suffered a severe head injury at the house she shared with Devyn and Devyn’s then-partner, Jalen Vaden.
After being airlifted to a Kansas City hospital, Jayda sadly passed away four days later.
Prosecutors later said that Vaden had admitted to becoming angry with the girl and throwing her to the floor multiple times, causing Jayda to suffer from a severe brain bleed and swelling. An affidavit alleged that Vaden “snapped” after Jayda refused to put on her pajamas.
While Vaden’s defense argued that his confession was “not accurate or truthful,” the then-23-year-old man pleaded guilty to a count of child abuse resulting in death. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
