A woman in Miami, Florida, decided to hug, embrace, and even welcome a driver after she crashed her vehicle. The internet reacted with outrage because, according to the same woman, the driver was allegedly drunk at the time.
TikTok user djmaskkbaby (Mask Baby) shared her clip online. Her content is mostly focused on dancing and lip-syncing, clips she shared with her otherwise discreet audience. The clip in question, however, became her biggest video by far. It garnered 5.1 million views, 779,300 likes, and more than 6,700 comments.
The clip started with an unnamed lady resting her head on the Florida woman’s shoulder. Mask Baby then detailed that the woman had gotten into a car accident, and then proceeded to film the car. The woman had crashed head-on into something, which was never specified, which led to very substantial damage to the vehicle’s hood and front.
“She’s so attached to me, and I feel so bad,” Mask Baby said. “I don’t want her to go to jail.”
Then, the TikToker provided a vital piece of information. The lady, whom she was embracing, was allegedly driving while under the influence. She also became upset, wishing that she could save her, as she didn’t speak English and didn’t believe she had a Green Card. Therefore, she would have a “horrible” time if she were arrested.
Bringing Her Home
In a follow-up clip, the Florida woman detailed that she had brought the driver to her home to allow her to, in her own words, “let her sober up.” According to her, the police allowed this, fully aware that she was a complete stranger.
“She couldn’t think straight because she’s drunk. So she couldn’t even open her phone,” she added.
The unnamed lady, according to Mask Baby, eventually called a family member who took her home. Her car was towed, and she didn’t go to jail.
Clip Draws Backlash
The video and its follow-up sparked many heated responses.
The vast majority of viewers believed the alleged drunk driver didn’t deserve any of their sympathy. One said, “Drunk? Yeah, no. She deserves jail time.” Another one commented, “I was with you ’til you said she was drunk.”
Some, although a handful of people, defended Mask Baby, saying that she was doing the right thing. One wrote, “You did a good thing. You have an amazing heart.” Another one added, “Pure soul. Don’t change.”
In a third clip, the Florida woman called her critics “little-minded,” saying that she was right by helping someone in need.
