A woman in Virginia shared a story about being mocked at the gym over her weight and confronting the people involved and leaving them with tears in their eyes.
The woman shared a video addressing two women and a male trainer at her gym who she claimed mocked her over her weight. According to her, they allegedly called her a “hippo” and a “fat back.” She said they deserved to feel ashamed after she explained that it was her first time returning to the gym following a stroke.
She kept going as her response then brought them to tears. The woman added that the trio deserved to have tears in their eyes after she explained how she had finally been medically cleared to go to the gym on her own. Before that, she said she would need to be accompanied by a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, her husband, her best friend, or her cane.
The woman added that she later went to the front desk and filed a complaint about the male trainer and the comments he allegedly made. “You should not be a trainer at a gym making people feel bad,” she said while addressing him. “You all did deserve that,” she told the trio before adding, “You deserve to feel as embarrassed, as put down, as sad, as awful as you tried to make me feel and you try to make everybody else feel.”
The woman then asked viewers not to tell her that not every gym is like the one she experienced, explaining that even though her gym had signs against bullying and promoting respect, she still felt she was mistreated. She also addressed others who are working to improve their lives, saying, “Do not let anyone take away your victories. Do not let anyone take away the hard work that you are doing because they are miserable people.”
Viewers Sympathize With Virginia Woman After She Gets Bullied
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers sympathized with the Virginia woman and criticized the three individuals involved in the incident at the gym. “I hope they have the day they deserve,” one person wrote. Another added, “They also deserve to have their pictures shared publicly.” Others encouraged her to escalate the issue, with one commenter advising, “Reach out to corporate please. They need to know!”
Others shared that they had similar experiences, with one person saying, “I have been to several gyms as overweight person. I won’t go back because of bullying.” Another commenter praised the woman, writing, “I am so sorry that happened. Standing ovation for sticking up for yourself. I am so proud of you!”
The video was heartbreaking to many viewers and sparked discussion about bullying within gym environments. It also led to broader conversations about the importance of empathy and being mindful of others. This is especially since people may not know what someone else is going through.
