Meeting a long-distance prospect for a date is risky, but that didn’t stop one hopeful woman from pursuing what she initially thought was the man of her dreams. She allegedly bought a $500 plane ticket to meet up in Colorado, only for her date to flake on her at the last minute, leaving her stranded alone. To make matters worse, the woman thinks the guy was lying, especially since he claimed that his grandmother was suddenly dying as an excuse.
TikTok user Maren Fowler is the woman in question, and on May 19, she posted a series of clips on her account detailing what happened to what could’ve been a dream date in Denver, Colorado. In the video, Fowler summed up the disaster as “The guy that wants you to fly out to see him for a second time doesn’t wanna see you anymore, but instead of calling off the trip he planned, he just makes up a crazy lie to leave you stranded at the airport.”
Fowler even included screenshots of the conversation before she booked the flight, where she spent $500 of her own money based on the promise that her supposed date, Cyrus, had “stuff planned” for her, including accommodations. But when Fowler arrived at the airport in Denver, Cyrus messaged her, “my grandmother is sick and either passing tonight or as soon as tmr [tomorrow],” meaning he wanted to cancel the date.
Fowler apparently went hysterical since Cyrus wouldn’t pick her up, “I can’t believe you did this to me, abandoning me at the airport… [expletive] you.” Cyrus, meanwhile, found Fowler’s reaction “heartless and disgusting” since “My grandmother is literally dying.” The woman didn’t believe this excuse, but continued her solo date in Denver while she was stranded.
People online are calling out the guy
In a video update, Fowler, the aggrieved woman, even claimed that Cyrus threatened to take legal action against her if she didn’t take down the video. However, she clapped back, saying she’ll only take down the videos if he compensates her for the $500-$600 she spent just to see him. The videos are still up at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, people online came up with all sorts of speculations and even further accused “Cyrus” of shadiness or infidelity. “I bet the dude was trying to cheat on his gf who was supposed to be out of town that weekend but she ended up not going at the last minute,” guesses a Reddit user. Others were merely shaking their heads at how much worse it could’ve gone for Fowler, “Soo many red flags before she bought the tickets…like girl cmon.” Somehow, getting flaked in a Denver airport doesn’t seem that bad.
