Senator Bernie Sanders posted on X about a big turnout at a rally in Portland, Maine. He backed candidates Graham and Troy, saying locals and people across the country are rejecting oligarchy, authoritarianism, and endless wars to protect the middle class. The post got a mix of reactions online — some support, but mostly heavy backlash, with many users calling him a hypocrite and hitting back with “You are the oligarch.”

A great turnout in Portland, Maine.

The people of Maine and all across the country are saying NO to oligarchy, NO to authoritarianism and NO to endless wars.

In the post shared from his X account @BernieSanders, Sanders described a strong turnout at the Portland, Maine event and reiterated his broader message against oligarchy, authoritarian influence, and ongoing military conflicts. He also voiced support for candidates Graham and Troy, saying they would stand up to the billionaire class and advocate for the middle class, concluding with a “Thank you, Maine!” message.

Online Reactions to Bernie Sanders’ Portland Post

Some users voiced support, with one writing, “Thank you, Bernie, for backing Graham Platner. AIPAC and Israel are spamming and paying a lot of bots and fake accounts to smear Graham. Tax the rich. Hold the Epstein class accountable for their crimes.”

Others issued strong criticism. Comments included “How many more years do you plan on peddling this oligarchy nonsense?” and “Democrat hypocrisy knows no bounds. You. Are. The. Oligarch.”

Additional users accused Sanders of hypocrisy, with one stating he is “part of it” while living in mansions, and another calling his message ironic because “Democrats don’t hate the idea of a king, they just want it to be their king in power.”

Two more replies intensified the backlash: “Bernie has been in Washington for 40 years, and the middle class is worse off than ever. Spare us the ‘oligarchy’ speech while you own multiple homes and cash in on the system,” and “Calling everyone else an oligarch while you’ve gotten rich off book deals, speaking fees, and taxpayer-funded salaries is peak hypocrisy.”
