A Texas family was left in shambles when they came home, only to find their house was emptied of their belongings. Due to an oversight, the family is now trying to rebuild their lives after losing numerous personal items and memories destroyed.

Posted on TikTok by user Angiealesss (Angie), she says her and her family came home to a horrifying situation: their apartment was being “completely emptied” by the apartment’s maintenance crew. In her video, they’re standing outside in the rain, which you can overhear Angie saying, “They took everything.”

@angiealesss

On May 27th Me and my boyfriend walked into our apartment and seen a whole group of maintenance workers clearing out our apartment we were so confused because our lease wasn’t up until the 31st the plan was to move everything out that day but unfortunately they had already threw out all of our valuables including all the sentimental values of our children🤦🏻‍♀️come to find out the maintenance made a big mistake and went into the wrong apartment🥲 yes we paid our last months rent we were not evicted! They did this out of mistake and caused so much damage to all of our items! Some of the men tried taking our stuff as well and when we confronted them about it they sat there and lied! So we had to call the police over and ofc they didn’t do nothing🤦🏻‍♀️Yes we contacted the management they never gave us an update on anything! They threw away everything! I posted my GoFundMe on my bio if you’re able to help it’ll be very much appreciated during this hard time🙏🏻 a simple repost would help as well!❤️ #texascity #fy #wrongfuleviction

Overnight bags and trash bags are left in a pile, filled to the brim with their stuff. She weeps on camera as she pans around, showing everything that was removed from their home. Even worse, some of the stuff belongs to Angie’s children.

As Angie says in the caption to her video, this happened due to a “severe oversight” from the company that manages their apartment. Maintenance mistook her family’s home for another apartment and cleaned out their entire home. In reality, it was another tenant that was being evicted.

This included disposing and or throwing away their personal belongings. Not only did they get rid of most of their stuff, but some of that included “irreplaceable family keepsakes.” All of their sentimental items were thrown away.

Angie said she immediately called law enforcement to assist them. She said they came to help out and “address the missing property.” However, Angie says so many of their essential items are still missing and are no longer in their possession. On Angie’s GoFundMe, she also claims “maintenance men stole our property” which she says they gave back “when we called the police” but some valuables were still missing.

People online offer their condolences and advice

Given the sensitive nature of the situation, people online suggested Angie seek legal advice. Even if she wasn’t ultimately evicted, the fact that many of her family’s belongings were destroyed is cause for concern. “Please get a lawyer ASAP” one commenter among many recommended.

Angie did respond to the post, stating “that’s the goal” and that she was hopeful they would “save up enough money” to get a lawyer. Others pointed out that lawyers take a cut after-the-fact, but she pushed back, saying the GoFundMe was for more than just lawyer fees.

Some disparaging comments were lobbed at Angie, suggesting she was lying about being evicted or that there was more to the story. Except her caption clearly states she wasn’t. “Why are you asking for a GoFundMe,” one commenter asked, which resulted in many TikTok users defending Angie.

One commenter offered some hope for Angie, stating, “This happened to my brother in law. He sued and won.” Angie commented back, asking for the kind of lawyer he had.

Given the context, this seems pretty cut-and-dry: being a mistake, it should be rectified by the apartment’s manager and the belongings should be replaced. This is a mistake that can be unmade!
