A hotel guest at a Marriott hotel was certainly feeling at home as he waltzed about barefoot for breakfast, but another guest from Michigan was anything but pleased. Disgust is likely the best way to describe how the onlooker felt by publicly shaming the shoeless man in r/marriott, posting “This is a no from me.” Going by Kindergarten4ever on Reddit, they claimed that “this is taking his comfort a step too far.”
Kindergarten4ever explained that they “love” bare feet and have no aversion to walking around their home and friends’ houses without shoes or socks. On the other hand, they “don’t believe for one second you enter restaurants barefoot,” claiming that it’s “a violation of a health code that exists for a reason.” Hundreds of Reddit users were in agreement, with numerous commenters expressing their disdain for the barefoot hotel guest.
Reddit Reactions Were Mixed, Some Were Disgusted While Others Felt OP Was in the Wrong
“This is why you occasionally see signs ‘no shirt, no shoes, no service,’” remarked a Redditor. “This is obviously very gross behavior,” expressed another. “I despise when people don’t wear shoes in a hotel,” added a third.
On the other hand, there was also a solid number of Redditors who disagreed with Kindergarten4ever’s complaint, with some even criticizing OP. The main point of criticism was taking a nonconsensual picture of the barefoot hotel guest just to shame him online. “Sure, that’s weird, but you taking a picture of a stranger and posting it online is just as bad,” wrote a user.
Others chimed in, saying how his feet were probably cleaner than his shoes, so it wasn’t a big deal. “Are his feet in the eggs? Are his toes organizing the food on your plate? Or is it really just someone’s doing something that impacts you 0%, and you’ve got a problem with it?” questioned another critical commenter.
In the end, plenty of people clearly have issues with those walking about in public with bare feet, especially in areas where food is being served and eaten. One comment shared a screenshot of hotel guests “in pajamas and loose-fitting robes – and of course, no shoes. Barely had clothes at a pretty nice downtown Marriott.” Hygienic concerns aside, many feel it’s a sign of inconsideration towards others.
On the other hand, a good number of others value privacy, claiming that secretly taking photos is just as much of an issue with decency as being barefoot. After all, who would want to have a digital footprint of their feet left online without their sole consent?
