A car crash was the last thing a Michigan man wanted to happen while he was attempting to teach his girlfriend’s son how to drive. Unfortunately, the lesson ended with a nasty dent in the front of his GMC truck. The twist is that it wasn’t the son; it was the boyfriend’s fault. He claims his partner’s child did a fabulous job despite it being his third time driving, but what he didn’t expect was crashing straight into a metal pole.
“’Help with a quick driving lesson,’ she said. ‘Nothing bad will happen,’ she said,” JackFlack91 wrote jokingly in his post on r/mildlyinfuriating. What happened was that he claimed he wasn’t paying attention after dropping off the boy with his girlfriend and drove into a pole. “I’m a perfect ‘Example A’ of what not to do,” he chuckled, and several thousand Redditors found the situation comically wholesome as well.
Fortunately, JackFlack91 says the truck is paid off and already due for shock and strut replacements, so the timing couldn’t have been better. “I’m more mildly infuriated by myself and the Rollercoaster of worry and disappointment I put my gf through,” he sighed, pointing out how this accident might become “ammo for future debates.” At the very least, his girlfriend’s son allegedly had a good laugh out of it all.
Reddit Says This Michigan Car Crash Was Both a Good Teaching and Bonding Moment
“This is an excellent teachable moment about not getting complacent and how to deal with it when something does happen!” exclaimed a hopeful commenter. “So what Im hearing is that kid should be giving you the driving lessons?” joked a second.
“Meh, it’s just cosmetic. Looks like the paint is intact so it won’t rust. I’d just leave it,” a third wrote to comfort OP. A few others added that the repairs to find the dent might be in the $700-$800s range.
As unfortunate as unexpected car crashes are, “even the best drivers just derp out sometimes,” as one person puts it. That aside, the whole ordeal will definitely be a moment neither the man nor his girlfriend’s son will ever forget. A Redditor wrote, “That’s all that matters. I’m sure the kid will remember you letting him drive and your slight mishap forever. Like the other person said, 100% bonding moment.”
