A video posted on TikTok shows TSA agents telling a young man from Georgia that he needed to remove his cast to pass through. The man has a traumatic brain injury and visibly needs the cast for his wrist. Commenters shared their frustrations in the comments section, with many asking why this needed to be done in the first place. The comments only grew more intense after the original poster released a follow-up video that added details.
The video was originally posted to TikTok by a traumatic brain injury advocate whose son was hit by a car while he was on his motorcycle, resulting in his disability. In this video, a TSA agent is seen speaking with the young man one-on-one, away from others in line.
The agent proceeds to pat down the gentleman and then pulls out a metal detector for further inspection. The detector beeps once it reaches the cast he is wearing on his left wrist, likely due to the limited mobility there.
In a follow-up video about the events, it was made known that both she and her son have TSA PreCheck as well as CLEAR. The purpose of both is to ensure faster airport security clearance. The former is actually a trusted traveler government program that gives eligible travelers easier security screening
In another video, it was revealed that this TSA agent had to contact a supervisor to move forward, further delaying the process.
Reactions to Disabled Man Being Asked to Remove Cast
Commenters jumped into the comments to express their frustrations at the situation, many of them directing it at the specific agent involved. One person wrote, “I hope you filed a complaint against him.” Similarly, another commenter wrote, “Wow, way too much for a tshirt and shorts.” Another commented, “Racism is so ugly”.
Some commenters even believed the agent might have had an ulterior motive, with one comment reading, “He was really hoping to find something.”
Other commenters were on the side of the TSA agent, with another person writing, “This person is highly trained and is performing their duties perfectly. While it might appear harsh at first glance but it is crucial for the safety of the passengers👍.”
As the video continues to gain traction on TikTok, more people are still leaving behind comments and advice.
