A mother and her family visited Universal Orlando in Florida and met a very popular character. She would then complain online that she and her kids had been treated poorly by the character. The internet, meanwhile, found no issues with the employee’s behavior and even said that it was consistent with the character he was portraying.
The woman in question is Serene Jamison. She described herself as a “blue collar momma” and often shared lifestyle and family content online. The video attached above quickly became her biggest ever, garnering 2.6 million views, 97,100 likes, and more than 2,300 comments.
As previously mentioned, Serene and her family were in Florida, visiting the Universal Orlando Resort. Specifically, they had, according to the woman, paid $2,000 to enter the theme park and waited one hour in line to meet two very well-known characters: Hiccup and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon.
As soon as they arrived, Hiccup appeared to direct the children in front of the beloved dragon. Meanwhile, the boys’ parents began talking to the male employee and coordinating photo specifics. They mentioned they wished to take pictures of each of their sons with the characters in question.
Hiccup Takes Over
Hiccup, however, had other plans, at least at first. He said that they will do the photos, but invited the children to properly meet Toothless first, adding, “That’s what you got in line for. […] Right?” The kids remained silent, possibly feeling a bit nervous about the fact that they were in front of their favorite dragon.
Hiccup, who is a sarcastic character in the movies, hearing no answer, said, “Don’t answer at once.”
The boys then managed to pet Toothless, and the mother found the interaction adorable. However, apparently, she wasn’t a fan of Hiccup’s behavior, saying that she was extremely disappointed that the employee “broke character” and treated her children with “disrespect.”
“Whoever this guy was, shouldn’t have a job with children. Ruined our entire day,” she wrote in the clip’s description.
Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses online.
Some viewers agreed with Serene and were sad that her experience at the Florida resort had been ruined. One said, “What the heck. He was super rude.” Another one commented, “Very rude, he wasn’t warm at all.”
However, the overwhelming majority didn’t have an issue with Hiccup’s actor, saying he was in character the whole time and not rude at all. One wrote, “Is the ‘rude’ character in the room?” Another one said, “So you’ve never watched the movies or the series?” A third commented, “Oh girl, you’re in the wrong here.”
The debate continued in the comments section, but by the looks of it, it seemed like both children had a wonderful time meeting their favorite How to Train Your Dragon characters.
