Wyoming Landlord Allegedly Threatens Military Tenant With Eviction Over Breadcrumbs on Kitchen Floor: ‘It Is Personal’

Quite a crummy thing to be upset over

Naturally, it’s important for any tenant to keep their rented home neat and tidy, but what one Wyoming resident’s landlord wants might be a little too much. MelloeSkye posted their concerns on r/Renters after their apartment owner allegedly did an inspection of their home, followed by a threat of eviction. Typically, something major must be amiss if a landlord is threatening to evict over it, but in MelloeSkye’s case, this so-called major issue was a couple of breadcrumbs.

MelloeSkye explained that they had made some banana bread around the time of the inspection, so a few crumbs and batter had gotten on the floor. They claimed they did their best to clean up the place, since a year earlier their home had been quite a mess. However, “When they inspected today, my landlord said she was ‘Tired of doing this with me, and that next time it would be an eviction notice,’” MelloeSkye wrote.

“I’m just wondering if it’s normal for a landlord to be so angry at a small mess in an apartment that’s lived in,” OP wondered in their post, adding how they also had some drama with the landlord’s son. They express how it’s understandable to want one’s property to be clean, but they feel as though their landlord’s demands are over the top and unreasonable.

“I’m in the military, and I am OVERLY tired of making wherever I live entirely spotless. I did it for 4 years and moved out so I wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore,” MelloeSkye wrote. They added how they believed their living room was technically ‘messier’ than the kitchen, but the landlord said nothing about that. “She specified it was because of food on the floor in the kitchen,” they clarified.

Reddit Thinks It’s High Time This Wyoming Tenant Move Out from Their Current Apartment

Among the hundreds who chimed in on the Wyoming tenant’s post, a few had a good idea of what exactly this landlord is up to with her questionable standards. “I would not be surprised if he wants you to leave to raise the rent for a new tenant,” remarked a user, with hundreds upvoting in agreement. “It’s unusual for you to fail an inspection based on the photos provided,” pointed out another.

“I still think it’s because of the past issue or because of the son. I can’t believe that those exact spills would get everyone a threat from her,” wrote a third. “I think it is personal,” agreed a fourth.

MelloeSkye shared that there’s nothing notably wrong with their home, aside from a few minor messes here and there, which Reddit collectively agrees looks completely fine in terms of cleanliness. According to the comments, all the signs with the hostile landlord point to her being upset over something completely different from the crumbs on the kitchen floor.

What MelloeSkye elaborated in the comments also might be a telling clue: “I only signed a new lease for 3 months because her son was making me uncomfortable, I pay 1250 a month for rent, so maybe y’all are right.” With the landlord allegedly out to get them, OP is convinced that the best move now would be to move out.
