A routine conversation over a pot of coffee has become the focus of a TikTok that’s beginning to gain attention online. A Kentucky worker says an early-morning exchange with a coworker quickly escalated into an alleged racist confrontation, prompting him to pull out his phone and record part of the encounter. He also claims management later downplayed his complaint, leading him to share his experience on social media.
According to the TikTok creator, the encounter began at around 5:40 a.m. on June 16 with what seemed like a routine conversation about coffee. After a coworker asked whether he had made it and he replied no, he alleges she said, “I can be so racist right now. I can be so hurtful to you right now,” before the situation escalated further.
In the clip, which appears to have been filmed in a workplace kitchen, the Kentucky worker can be seen confronting his female coworker while recording on his phone. “You said I was gonna make you racist. What did you mean by that?” he asks. The woman responds, “I can’t talk to you. This is gonna get ugly as [expletive], so get out of my kitchen,” before the confrontation escalates further.
“I just want you to clarify what you meant when you said I was going to make you racist,” the man filming says. “You said you could say something super hurtful—” Before he can finish, the woman cuts him off, replying, “No, you’re a piece of [expletive]. That’s all I was trying to say.” When he asks her once more to explain what she meant, she responds, “Okay, Teri. Get your Black [expletive] out of my kitchen. Seriously. That’s how you make me feel.”
According to the creator, he reported the incident to management immediately after it happened and provided the video he had recorded. He says a meeting was eventually held on June 24, but instead of addressing the alleged racist remarks directly, the discussion was reduced to “no more name-calling and bad words,” leaving him feeling that the seriousness of his complaint had been overlooked.
Explaining why he decided to share the incident publicly, the creator said nobody should have to endure alleged racist remarks at work and then feel as though their concerns have been minimized. At the time of writing, the employer had not publicly responded to the allegations.
Although the TikTok was only recently posted, viewers who came across the video were quick to share their thoughts, with many expressing support for the creator and criticizing the alleged workplace incident.
Social Media Reactions
On TikTok, many viewers expressed sympathy for the creator, with several saying they were saddened by the alleged workplace incident. One user wrote, “i am so sorry you went through this, racism is so common in this country it’s so heartbreaking,” while another added, “That’s totally unacceptable behaviour.”
Others turned their attention to the creator’s legal options. One commenter simply wrote, “easy lawsuit,” though another argued the situation was more complicated depending on where the incident took place, writing, “Not at all. Sadly, so many of you on TikTok imagine that every state has California right but NO state in the confederacy does.” Despite that, some still encouraged the creator to take action, with another person commenting, “Quit & file a lawsuit.. simple!”
For the creator, the video was about more than documenting an uncomfortable workplace encounter. He says he wanted to speak out because nobody should have to endure alleged racist remarks at work and then feel as though their concerns have been minimized. As the TikTok continues to gain attention, many viewers will be hoping he gets the answers he says he was looking for.
