Road rage took on a different meaning in Georgia as a racist driver threw slurs at a Black woman as they waited at a red light in traffic. The tail end of the heated exchange was posted on Instagram, showing the man hurling hateful words at the woman from his truck. He threatened that he was going to “hang” the woman from the traffic light. When she dared him to repeat the names he had called her, turning the camera right in his face, the man immediately wound up his window, flipped her the middle finger, and drove off.
The woman followed, asking him to wind down and repeat what he had said. She then zoomed in to capture the perpetrator’s license plate. In a series of follow-up Instagram posts, the woman who was threatened shared context to the incident. She shared that she had gone out for breakfast with her mum, and they were on their way back home. She had noticed a truck maneuvering through traffic, always trying to be faster than everyone else, but she did not pay too much attention to it.
When she got to the red light, she took out her phone to record a video, but mistakenly took a picture. While she was trying to delete that and continue with her video, the truck pulled up beside her, and the driver made a snide comment about her driving badly because she was on her phone. When she confirmed that the man’s remark was directed at her, she engaged him, telling him that his driving was a hazard to both himself and other road users. The woman recounted that her calling him out for breaking the rules made him aggressive, hence the racist remarks.
She added that she had seen the comments from people asking her to report him to the police, and she had done that.
Netizens Want Justice Served, Tell Woman To Sue Racist Man
The Georgia community immediately stormed the comments section, calling for accountability and seeking the driver who had fled.
A user mocked the driver, saying, “Racists are always scared to be known lmao.” Another agreed, saying they all lacked courage and could only act tough out of fear. A netizen exposed a pattern, writing, “They always do these low-risk activities with women & children.” Another pointed out the immediate switch that occurred as soon as the perpetrator saw the phone the woman was using to record, calling the internet community to track him down. A shocked user marveled at the willingness of racists to lose their entire lives over a moment of public hatred.
Many others urged the woman to report the man immediately, and another used it as a teaching moment, pointing out that making threats against people’s lives falls completely outside the boundaries of free speech. A critic wrote, “America has a pervasive, severe issue with racism towards Black people.”
The Georgia incident highlights the importance of using the internet to identify defaulters like this.
