Today an announcement during the Clone Wars panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the captivating CG-animated series is getting a revival to complete the series after its disappointing cancellation in 2013. Camouflaged as a panel for the 10-year-anniversary celebration of the series it wasn’t too hard to believe. With special guests to honor the show’s original run from October 2008 – March 2014; and, it seemed the panel would strictly focus on celebrating the past.
But that’s just not how LucasFilms works are it. When the screen started rolling the audience knew what was happening. This panel finished, the screen displaying the hashtag “#CloneWarsSaved,” leading an uproar of excitement from the crowd.
It seems that the show will continue a few years after the ending of its first go-round. The tensions between Anakin and his apprentice Ashoka leave tons of questions. We know that the series leads into Revenge of the Sith and that may have caused issues. Excitement sweeps the Star Wars community with this new continuation of one of its favorite TV shows.
The cast looks to be the same with Matt Lanter as Anakin, Tim Curry as Chancellor Palpatine and Darth Sidious, as well as Star Wars live-action stars Ahmed Best and Anthony Daniels reprising their roles as Jar Jar Binks and C-3PO, respectively.
In 2014, writer Brett Friedman told a fan on Twitter that scripts for Clone Wars’ seventh and eighth season had were completed before the series’ cancellation, but if it is used is unknown.
