The Great American State Fair in Washington, DC, was no doubt eventful in more ways than one, and despite the apparent lack of crowds in certain areas, certain event-goers still went viral. A group of Asian women in particular sparked some intense debates online after they were spotted wearing dedicated and serious Charlie Kirk shirts while also professing their “love” for the late Conservative.
The incident took place occured in the National Mall area in Washington, DC, around July 4. Instagram user joshuawatermannyc was among the first to post about it, and he even walked up to the women, asking their reason for wearing the shirt. In the video, you can see four middle-aged Asian women, two of whom are wearing a shirt adorned with Charlie Kirk’s photo.
“You guys like Charlie Kirk?” the Instagram user asked them, to which they responded with “not just like– love! Love to death!” Apparently, one of the Asian women loves Charlie Kirk because “he loves his country, because he worships God, because he believes there is only two genders, man and woman in this world.”
The response and the interaction have since amassed millions of views, and over in the comment section, the other Instagram users were still stunned at the gesture. “Asian women wearing Charlie Kirk shirts is next level wild,” claims one commenter, because apparently, it’s polarizing to see the “hypocrisy of a non-white woman canonizing a white supremacist,” referring to Charlie Kirk’s views and statements, especially against Black people.
The Asian women have sparked an online debate
Charlie Kirk, for the record, has often been criticized by civil rights groups and researchers for his radical views normalizing or promoting ideas associated with white nationalist or supremacist movements. Prior to his death, he often repeated discussion of the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, narratives often used by white supremacists.
Kirk has also made some controversial remarks about Asians, particularly the high level of immigration from Asian countries like India amid the H-1B visa program, prompting some accusations of xenophobia and racism. Hence, people have continued to criticize the Asian women in the video above, ranting, “Do they know what charlie would think about them?”
Still, certain groups of people defended the Asian women in the video, with some even thanking, saying comments such as, “To all you foreigners who love us for what we used to be and represent-Thank you, and I’m sorry we are currently failing our own legacy.” Others were surprised at how the women managed to stay safe in a place where Confederate flags were spotted, “I’m surprised these women didn’t get attacked.”
