A New York influencer is facing intense backlash after posting a condescending video about her experience shopping at a small-town grocery store. The TikTok video, which has since been deleted and reposted on Reddit, showed the influencer and another woman walking into the grocery store. Before entering the store, she explained that the online order they had placed had been canceled three times, so they were forced to shop at the last minute. “We are in this teeny tiny town in the mountains,” she shared, hoping they could get all they needed. “It’s giving small-town vibes,” the woman joked, showing the floor as they walked in.

Looking around, she said, “I have a feeling this is not going to be good news.” As they walked through the store, the influencer kept assuming the worst of everything. At first, she thought there was no cart in the store until her friend went to pick one up. Next, she claimed all the fruit in the store was “bad” until her friend handed her a bunch of fresh cucumbers. “I feel like I’m in a simulation right now,” she said, laughing. They walked around the store with a full cart while she kept saying demeaning things about the store. After they loaded the groceries, her friend went to return the cart, but it began to rain. “I’m like, what is going on right now?” the influencer said.
The Influencer Called Out For Her Out-of-Touch Critique
Rather than finding the clip amusing, netizens stormed the comments, responding with overwhelming backlash, with many describing her actions as a result of privilege. “I’m so confused. So…you’re just too good for a normal grocery store or what?” Providing a comprehensive breakdown of the town, a protective local explained that the shortage of options was merely a standard side effect of Fourth of July tourists, identifying the town in question as Tannersville, NY, a close-knit town. An analytical user noted the irony in the clip, “‘Guys, this is not good,’ and then pans camera to a perfectly fine bag of potatoes.”
Many others described the vlog as “tone-deaf.” A critical TikToker wrote, “What a luxury to fill your cart to the brim without looking at prices and worrying if you have enough money to cover your bills for the month. May this kind of privilege never find me.” Expressing secondhand embarrassment, a stunned user noted that the influencer delayed taking down the controversial post. A mocking critic scoffed, stating that the influencer’s move to New York City gave her an unearned sense of importance. “So out of touch with reality. It’s insane,” they added.
The internet showed that they would not stand for people making a mockery of a normal day-to-day store!
