A Colorado couple documenting their van conversion on TikTok unexpectedly went viral after sharing a video of a Karen complaining about the noise from their project. The couple described the encounter as their “first Karen moment,” but many viewers ended up debating whether the neighbor’s complaint was actually unreasonable.
The video was posted by TikTok account @madhawkventures, where the couple regularly shares updates as they transform a van into a home for their future van life travels. While most of their videos focus on the build itself, this particular clip drew far more attention, racking up more than six million views and thousands of comments as viewers weighed in on the disagreement.
In the video, the Colorado Karen approaches the couple as they work on the van in their driveway. She explains that the construction noise has been disruptive because it has continued for several days and says she does not keep a regular daytime schedule. According to the woman, the repeated cutting and building noises had become excessive.
Rather than arguing, the couple tells her they can close the garage door while using louder tools to help reduce the noise. Throughout the conversation, the Colorado Karen repeatedly says she is not trying to be rude, and the discussion remains calm despite the disagreement. Even so, the couple later uploaded the clip describing it as their first encounter with a “Karen.”
Internet Divided Over Colorado “Karen” Video
The video quickly sparked debate over where to draw the line between being considerate of neighbors and having the right to complete home improvement projects during normal daytime hours. While the interaction itself remained civil, many viewers disagreed with the Colorado couple’s decision to label the woman a Karen, arguing that she had simply voiced a concern in a respectful manner.
The comment section reflected those mixed opinions. Many viewers felt that the woman approached the situation calmly and politely rather than yelling or making demands. Several said that asking neighbors to be mindful of excessive noise did not automatically make someone a Karen, especially if they worked overnight or had an unusual sleep schedule. Others even sympathized with the Colorado woman, saying they understood how several days of loud construction could become frustrating. One commenter joked, “Y’all are way nicer than me.”
Others, however, sided with the Colorado couple and argued that daytime construction noise is simply part of living in a neighborhood. Many pointed out that homeowners routinely deal with roof replacements, landscaping crews, and renovation projects during daylight hours.
Some shared their own experiences of being inconvenienced by noisy neighbors but said they accepted it because people have the right to work on their property during reasonable hours. Several commenters also suggested that anyone who regularly sleeps during the day should consider blackout curtains, white noise machines, or soundproofing instead of expecting neighbors to remain quiet.
Sometimes a viral “Karen” video creates more sympathy for the supposed Karen than the person holding the camera. In this case, the internet couldn’t even agree on who deserved the title.
