A South Carolina woman has provoked widespread outrage after posting a gleeful TikTok video celebrating the death of Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, complete with dancing, laughter and a call for another senior GOP lawmaker to die.
The woman, who appears to oppose Graham’s politics, filmed herself sitting in a car while Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration” played in the background. Behind her, her husband could be seen unloading items from the trunk before laughing and dancing along to the music.
Graham died at the age of 71 following what his office described as a brief and sudden illness.
Rather than showing sympathy for his family, the woman treated the senator’s death as a political victory. She recalled learning the news while shopping at a butcher’s, claiming that she and the butcher celebrated together when they heard Graham had died.
Although she acknowledged that rejoicing over someone’s death might bring bad karma, she admitted she was too happy to care.
Her video then took an even darker turn when she expressed hope that Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell would die soon as well.
The woman described the deaths of the two Republican senators as potential political openings, saying they could create “two opportunities for blue.”
She then shouted, “Come on, Kentucky!”
Her husband later climbed back into the car and helped close the video with another dance as the celebratory song continued playing.
Viewers Condemn “Hateful” Display
The reaction beneath the video was overwhelmingly hostile, with viewers from across the political spectrum condemning the woman’s conduct.
One commenter wrote, “What’s wrong with people!”
Another said, “No matter what anyone thinks of Lindsey Graham or his politics, celebrating someone’s death is a line we should never cross.”
A self-described Democratic voter also rejected the spectacle, writing, “Blue here, but I can’t imagine celebrating someone’s death that way. This is what’s wrong with our world. On both sides.”
Others described the video as “shameful,” “appalling” and “sick,” while one viewer remarked, “Celebrating a death shows lack of character and empathy. You don’t have to like the man or what he stood for. Just be a good human.”
Several users also warned the woman about karma, particularly after she openly wished for McConnell’s death.
Graham, a prominent South Carolina Republican first elected to the Senate in 2002, was one of Washington’s best-known voices on defense and foreign policy.
Political disagreement is inevitable. Dancing over a man’s death while publicly hoping another will follow is something else entirely.
