And even if the voting hasn’t happened, several residents are already furious and pointing their fingers at who they think are the culprits.
Today, a note from Inside Climate News found its way to the Colorado subreddit, which discusses a ballot measure seeking to implement a “right of natural gas.” As with any other measure, people will still have to vote on this, but it seems that this proposal, created by a nonprofit, is pushing to make gas stoves and other gas-related appliances the norm in households from now on. If it passes, many residents might be forced to use electric heating and cooking elsewhere, as the law could make this mandatory.
This has raised several concerns among the state’s residents, as some cities have been looking for ways to make certain households more eco-friendly and push toward “electrification,” as some call it. Yet, that could all stop soon if voters go for the right to natural gas.
As you can imagine, those in Colorado didn’t take the news too well. Many have already started blaming certain individuals and organizations for this, saying it is yet another questionable thing that conservatives are pushing.
Colorado Redditors Believe Companies and Conservatives Are the Ones to Blame
Many Reddit users have started pointing their fingers, with many believing that conservatives, who are the ones who allegedly proposed the ballot measure, and companies are guilty in this debacle.

On the other hand, some Redditors suggested a middle ground, as gas stoves aren’t bad, especially for those who don’t have the means to switch to electric cooking.
“Putting a ‘right to natural gas’ in the constitution is stupid. But natural gas does have benefits when used for cooking, namely reliability. I live in an area with frequent power outages, and I wouldn’t be able to heat water or eat warm food without a gas stove.“
Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see what the voters choose, but so far, some people are not too happy about this.
