It’s almost impossible to hear the name Game Freak without thinking of Pokémon. But that may finally be about to change. As some of you know, the legendary studio has been working on an action RPG that has been the talk of the town for a while. Well, with the recent previews, Beast of Reincarnation may’ve just made its way to the “must-play” list of many gamers, as it looks extremely promising, and is arguably shaping up to be one of the best action RPGs we’ll get this year.
The Recent Beast of Reincarnation Previews Praise Its Combat
Among the many previews that some outlets shared today, several have been praising the game’s combat system, which is fitting, as the studio shared a look at those features today. In any case, the previews, which focused on the game’s opening sequence, have been praising the strong world-building and the combat mechanics, the latter of which seems to be the highlight of the game so far.
Many have compared Beast of Reincarnation with Sekiro, especially due to its level design, but most importantly, its parrying and posture mechanics. However, it isn’t exactly the same, as Game Freak’s latest endeavor seems to be looking for ways to revolutionize action RPGs in a challenging yet accessible way.
As you can see in the combat preview that the studio shared, it isn’t your typical soulslike game. Instead, it tries to lean heavily toward the companion system, which, in this case, is Koo, who isn’t just there to join Emma for a post-apocalyptic journey. Every time you parry, you’ll get skill points, which you can then use in real-time to perform abilities. You can see in the showcase how some of the abilities have different skill point costs and also have different effects and quick-time event-like mechanics.
On top of that, we also got an early look at the skill tree, which shows several options for Emma and Koo, so build-crafters will likely have a field day when they get their hands on it. Yet, what is truly the most exciting part is just how well combat seems to flow, whether it is against one or several enemies, or even one towering boss.
While those who attended the preview have shared their surprise with the game, several gamers who’ve looked at the new combat showcase also believe that Beast of Reincarnation is a must-play and will be one of the best titles of 2026. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long, as this new action RPG lands on August 4.
