An Ohio store employee was filmed trying to pull a shopper’s cart away while her dog was still inside after believing she was attempting to steal the shopping cart.
The shopper shared a video showing the employee repeatedly trying to pull the shopping cart away while her dog remained inside. According to the shopper, the employee continued doing so for about 30 minutes because he believed she was attempting to steal the cart.
The employee continued to pull the cart despite the dog remaining inside, prompting viewers to express concern for the pet’s safety. “You aren’t gonna hurt me. Trust me,” she told him. He replied, “If I trusted you, I wouldn’t have followed you.” The shopper then responded, “You are gonna lose your job over this.” Throughout the video, the employee remained holding onto the cart and refused to let go.
Another video showed the employee still refusing to let go of the cart. At that point, the shopper’s companion began calling the police. After hearing this, the employee claimed that he was the one being harassed. “I’m an employee. I’m being assaulted by two girls,” he said. The footage shared online does not show the women physically touching him during the portion of the encounter that was recorded. The shopper responded, “I haven’t touched you once. I got it all on video.”
A third video showed the employee continuing to hold onto the shopping cart while the shopper held onto it from the other side. According to the shopper, she repeatedly offered to return the cart to the store herself, but claimed the employee insisted on accompanying her. After she told him several times that she wanted to go to her car, he agreed and walked with her while still holding the cart. “I don’t need your help to go to my car,” she told him.
Later in the video, another employee, whom viewers believed was the manager, approached the scene. The shopper immediately shouted, “Get your worker,” before adding, “Get him off this [expletive] cart.” According to the shopper, police later arrived but took no action against the employee. She alleged that officers told her they understood why the employee acted the way he did. They said it was because the shopping cart had been taken too far from the store. The shopper also claimed that the employee was not fired following the incident.
Viewers Shocked Over Ohio Employee’s Behavior
The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers said they were shocked by how the Ohio employee interacted with the shopper. Some argued that his actions went too far. “Hi, this is assault and battery. Please press charges,” one person wrote. Others believed the shopper was singled out because she is a Black woman. “It makes me sad that this many people focus on the dog in the cart then this man racially profiling this woman. The last thing I will say is I’m so sorry this happened to you and I hope you’re doing okay,” another commenter wrote.
More viewers expressed outrage over the incident and said they felt sorry for the shopper’s dog. “He needs to lose his job and sued for causing trauma to that dog! Hopefully you called police,” one person wrote. Others, however, criticized the shopper instead. “Dogs aren’t supposed to be in carts. People put their groceries in there,” another commenter said.
Although the confrontation eventually ended without any reported arrests, viewers remained divided over who crossed the line first, with the debate shifting from the shopping cart itself to how far store employees should go when they suspect someone is taking one.
