Some mysteries are better left unsolved, and in the case of one group of California friends, it was for their own safety. While riding down Glendora Ridge for a late-night drive, Reddit user ChapGod encountered a sight from what could only be something out of a horror movie. A man lay motionless in the middle of the road next to a car. He was alive and breathing, which made the scene all the more uncanny.
ChapGod posted a video of the unsettling encounter on both Reddit and YouTube, where thousands reacted with strong concern about the creepy stranger’s intention. “That’s either a trap, or a chronic alcoholic. Either way, want no business with it,” remarked a commenter. “Ambush. Got to be,” agreed another.
“Leaving was the correct thing to do. Someone else was hiding somewhere to rob you. Road guy is bait,” explained a third. “Never stop, you will get robbed or worse,” recommended a fourth. It’s easy not to wonder why ChapGod stopped, as anyone would be shocked to see a random person lying in the middle of the road on a pitch-black night. Luckily, the man didn’t move when OP and their friends drove around him.
One Redditor in the comments claimed they, too, encountered the same man lying on the ground near Glendora Ridge in California. Reddit user Trashbagjizz commented, vouching for ChapGod’s account. While going home from Mt. Baldy, they claim to have taken the road through Glendora Ridge Rd to Glendora Mtn Rd. “We arrived at this same spot around 5:30am and he was still laying there,” Trashbagjizz recalled.
The commenter said they called the police after leaving, and when they followed up the next day, the authorities said no one was there during their investigation. “This is a common robbery set up in other countries. Never get out of the car, just call the police,” a Reddit user wrote in response to Trashbagjizz’s side of the story.
While there’s no possible way to confirm the man lying motionless on Glendora Ridge Road was a trap, all the signs point to it being one, according to Reddit. Not to mention, the spot where he was lying was directly beside an intersection of two mountain roads, where drivers are legally required to stop. “That’s what made it more creepy tbh, it’s the intersection to get back down and go home for me,” OP quivered.
If there’s anything to take away from this terrifying encounter, ChapGod offered some sound advice to others: “Definitely use your situational awareness, if you have a gut feeling, follow it.” In other words, if something seems awfully suspicious, it’s clearly best to err on the side of caution and avoid it.
