It’s been several months since a man who calls himself “Palm Beach Pete” went viral for looking unsettlingly similar to Jeffrey Epstein. Since then, clips of the Florida resident have been circulating the internet, as people try to get to the bottom of whether or not he’s really Epstein. One such clip includes Pete suspiciously answering to the name “Jeffrey.”
Pete had previously been asked if he would respond to the name “Jeffrey,” to which he replied that he wouldn’t, because he isn’t actually Jeffrey Epstein and that isn’t his name. However, when someone decided to test that theory, they managed to catch Pete turning and smiling at the name “Jeffrey” before looking away and driving off.
Conspiracy theorists were already suspicious of Palm Beach Pete, and this latest clip has only added fuel to the fire. For example, one TikToker asserted that the jig was up, with a simple, “We know it’s you, bud.” Another person agreed, “Thank you for the clarification, Jeff.“
Reactions Over the Florida Man’s Identity Were Mixed
The clip’s comments section quickly split into a debate, as some felt the video proves that Pete is indeed Epstein, and others argued that Pete is an innocent man who is being harassed. Those in the former group shared insights such as, “Humans are wired to answer to their names,” and, “If you don’t answer to Jeff, then why’d you look over?“
On the other side of the argument, someone countered, “Look, I don’t know if I believe him, but I can tell you – if someone yells anything near me, I’m going to turn my head to look.” Another person agreed, “On his side with this because yelling out a name would catch my attention too.“
Well, according to the National Library of Medicine, “hearing one’s own name has unique brain functioning activation specific to one’s own name in relation to the names of others.” So, it is true that one instinctively responds in some way – usually by turning towards the person who spoke – when they hear their name. Most importantly, those same reactions don’t exist when hearing someone else’s name.
Still, this alone is not evidence that Palm Beach Pete is really Jeffrey Epstein. Rather, it’s entirely possible that he didn’t hear what name was spoken at all. Perhaps he simply heard a noise and turned his head to see what it was.
Or, perhaps Epstein really did kill himself. Though, admittedly, many are not particularly convinced either.
