‘It’s a Joke, and He’s a Clown’: Pennsylvania Sen. Fetterman Dismisses Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Promise to Arrest Netanyahu

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman dismissed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s promise to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as impossible, arguing the mayor has no authority to order such an arrest.

Sen. John Fetterman tells Zohran Mamdani to "fix a pothole," blasting the NYC mayoral candidate for weighing in on foreign policy:

“Now you have the mayor of a city. You’re a mayor, dude. You’re a mayor. You can fix a pothole. You can take out the trash. But you can’t order… pic.twitter.com/5C7GWnggzL

The video was shared on X and showed Fetterman criticizing Mamdani’s comments.

Fetterman argued that mayors are responsible for running their cities, not directing criminal prosecutions or foreign policy. He said Mamdani could oversee issues like potholes and trash collection but could not order anyone’s arrest.

To make his point, Fetterman said he could no more order Mamdani’s arrest if the mayor entered Pennsylvania than Mamdani could order Netanyahu’s arrest in New York. He also rejected Mamdani’s claim that Netanyahu was unwelcome in the city, saying local officials lack that authority.

Fetterman also criticized Mamdani’s broader rhetoric toward Israel, accusing him of focusing on Netanyahu while failing to condemn groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

Pennsylvania Reacts to John Fetterman’s Remarks

The clip drew praise for Fetterman and criticism of his argument about a mayor’s responsibilities.

“BRAVO Sen Fetterman! People must speak out loud and clear about this ridiculous but dangerous shell of a man, Mamdani,” one user wrote.

Another stated, “John Fetterman can be counted on as the voice of reason, logic and American patriotism.” A separate response said, “Fetterman is the last strand of sanity in the extremely frayed rope that is the modern day democrat party.”

Another user wrote, “I don’t agree with all of Fetterman’s views but somethings he absolutely makes sense on.”

Others challenged Fetterman’s remarks. One user asked, “Does Fetterman ever go on Fox to talk what HE is doing to make lives better for PA???”

Another questioned, “Oh excuse me, when did becoming mayor mean you stop caring about things outside your city?”

As of publication, Mamdani had not publicly responded to Fetterman’s remarks. The exchange quickly fueled another round of online debate over the mayor’s comments about Netanyahu and the limits of a local official’s authority in international matters.
